Veteran claims Triple H chose not to put over former WWE Champion because of a taxi driver

Triple H is one of the most respected figures in pro wrestling. Having ushered in a new era in WWE, the future looks bright for the industry. However, before he took over backstage duties, he was an active performer for almost three decades. Many would love the opportunity to work with him in the ring. However, for one former champion, a match with The Game apparently didn't go as planned.

In 2017, former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal faced off against Triple H at a Live Event in New Delhi, India. It was a massive event, which was apparently the passing of the torch to The Modern Day Maharaja, in front of the 1.4 billion he represents. However, according to wrestling veteran, Bin Hamin, things ended rather differently, and it's all thanks to a taxi driver.

Hamin claimed on Vince Russo's The Brand podcast that upon arriving in India, Triple H's taxi driver gushed over him. The driver told him how much he loved watching The Cerebral Assassin in high school, and even had posters of him in his locker. This was enough for the 24-time WWE champion to change the plans for the Live Event and have himself beat Jinder Mahal.

"Triple H was in a cab, and the taxi driver turned to him and said, 'I loved you all through high school. You were on my high school locker poster. And I love DX.' And that was enough to not make Jinder in India, switch the finish, and have Triple H go over in a big country in front of a major crowd where, you know, you get a DX easy house show pop instead of making the guy," said Bin Hamin [From 04:39 to 05:05]

After the event, Mahal continued his run as WWE Champion but did not impress many. His inability to get over with the fans saw his title reign come to a disappointing end at the hands of AJ Styles ahead of Survivor Series 2017.

Triple H reportedly had a major role to play in the recent roster cuts

Earlier this month, WWE released several major superstars from its roster. Jinder Mahal, Xyon Quinn, Xia Li, Sanga, Veer Mahaan, Von Wagner, and Cameron Grimes were among the recent layoffs. Following the release, the stars received a lot of love and support from fans and peers alike. But who was behind the release?

Well, according to Wrestling Observer Newsletter's Dave Meltzer, Triple H played a major role in the roster cuts. The Game reportedly made the call on most of the cuts to the main roster. Furthermore, the report also suggests that stars from WWE's developmental brand were not notified about the cuts until they happened.

The pro wrestling business isn't as easy as it's made out to be. Sometimes, executives have to make difficult decisions, especially when it comes to deciding which talent to let go of. In this case, The King of Kings may have made decisions that he believed were best for business.
