The action continues in round 19 of La Liga as Espanyol and Leganes go head-to-head at the RCDE Stadium on Saturday. Both sides, separated by just three points in the bottom half of the table, will be looking to get one over the other and secure their first league win of the year.
Espanyol failed to find their feet last time out as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Las Palmas in their final outing of 2024. Manolo Gonzalez’s men have now gone five straight games without a win, claiming two draws and losing three, including a shock 2-0 loss against Unión Deportiva Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on December 3.
Espanyol have picked up 15 points from their 18 La Liga matches to sit 18th in the league standings, one point behind 17th-placed Getafe just above the relegation zone.
Elsewhere, Leganes turned in a resilient team display in their first outing of the year as they fought back from behind to claim a 2-1 victory over Cartagena in the Copa del Rey round of 32 last Sunday.
Head coach Borja Jimenez will hope that the result can serve as a springboard for a fine run of form as they return to action in the league. They have won just one of their last five games since late November.
Leganes have picked up 18 points from their 18 La Liga games to sit 15th in the league standings, three points and two places above Saturday’s hosts in the danger zone.
While Espanyol and Leganes find themselves scrambling for points in the bottom half of the table, victory here could change the fortunes of both the teams. Home advantage gives Gonzalez’s men a slight upper hand and we are tipping them to claim all three points this weekend.
