Barcelona have shown interest in signing Chelsea players Romeo Lavia and Carney Chukwuemeka in the forthcoming January transfer window, according to a report by Sport.es. Lavia joined Chelsea in August 2023 from Southampton for a transfer fee worth €62.10 million.

In the 2023-24 season, Lavia registered only one appearance for the London-based side as he suffered numerous injury setbacks. Similarly, in the ongoing 2024-25 campaign, he has only registered three appearances across competitions for Chelsea.

Given his transfer fee, many supporters would have expected him to be a regular starter at the club. However, the Belgian midfielder's struggles to attain full fitness continue.

Barcelona are looking to add some numbers in the defensive midfield position and Lavia has been identified as one of the options. Hence, the Spanish side could push for a loan deal for Romeo Lavia.

Another player on Barcelona's radar is Chukwuemeka. He primarily plays as a central midfielder for the Blues.

Chukwuemeka joined the club from Aston Villa for €18 million in August 2022. Based on his performance in the 2022 European Under-19 Championship, he was selected in the team of the tournament.

In the 2023-24 season, Chukwuemeka registered only 12 appearances for the Blues, scoring two goals and providing one assist. However, in the ongoing campaign, Chukwuemeka has played only one game across competitions under Enzo Maresca's reign as the manager.

Given his talent and his lack of game time, the 20-year-old might be willing to join Barcelona as they've shown interest in signing him. It remains to be seen if Barcelona's hierarchy will sign him in the January transfer window.

While it's still early to predict the outcome of the Premier League 2024-25 campaign, one team that have shown considerable improvement are Chelsea.

The Blues have won four, drawn two, and lost one of their first seven games in the Premier League this season. They occupy the fourth spot, having secured 14 points in the league.

If the players can remain focused and determined, they could secure a UEFA Champions League spot at the end of the season. However, their progress would be tested when they take on Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday (October 20).
