Lionel Messi has admitted that he is getting closer to his retirement and is thus enjoying every moment on the field. Speaking after netting a hat-trick for Argentina against Bolivia, he added that no date had yet been finalized for his retirement.

Messi also thanked the fans for chanting his name throughout the match. He further acknowledged that this support drove him to perform. He said (via MSN):

"It's really nice to come here, to feel the affection of the people. It moves me how they shout my name. I haven't set any date or deadline regarding my future, I just want to enjoy all of this.
"It moves me more than ever to be here and feel the love of the people because I know these could be my last matches. This drives me. Enjoying being happy where I am. Despite my age, when I'm here, I feel like a kid because I'm comfortable with this team. As long as I feel good and can keep performing the way I want, we'll keep enjoying it."

Lionel Messi has been backed to play the 2026 FIFA World Cup but the Argentine icon himself has made no comments regarding the same. The Barcelona legend was set to retire from international football in 2022 but changed his decision after winning the World Cup in Qatar.

Lionel Messi confirms Inter Miami will be his final club

Lionel Messi opened up about his future during a conversation with ESPN earlier this year, confirming that Inter Miami would be his final club. He added that his retirement was close and he had no plans to join another club, saying:

"Inter Miami will be my last club. I love playing football. I enjoy everything much more because I am aware that there is less [left to play]. I'm still having fun.
"At the club [Inter Miami] I am lucky to have teammates and friends by my side. Also in the national team. I enjoy the little details knowing that, when I don't play anymore, I'm going to miss it."

Lionel Messi played a key role in Inter Miami's MLS Supporters' Shield triumph this season. He has the chance to help them win their third silverware as they will be in MLS Cup action soon.
