Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has stated that new Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim should sell most of his current squad to be successful in the future.
The Red Devils, who splashed around £180 million earlier this summer, are expected to inject new blood into their ranks to offer a helping hand to Amorim. They are likely to sign a number of new players who could fit into the former Sporting CP and Braga manager's 3-4-3 system.
In his latest column for Caught Offside, Collymore claimed that Amorim could succeed in his role at Manchester United if he is backed properly by his club's hierarchy. He wrote:
"I think that if he has the wind in his sails and the correct support from the new recruitment structure that Manchester United now have, I think he can be successful. But in terms of players, I think that they're all up for sale."
Collymore, who also used to play for Nottingham Forest, continued:
"I think that every single player – Casemiro, Amad [Diallo], [Marcus] Rashford or whoever it is – at this point in time should be available for sale until the time where Amorim has played them for 15 to 20 games and they've proven that they can produce consistent nine out of 10 performances."
Urging Amorim to emulate Liverpool boss Arne Slot, Collymore added:
"Amorim needs to do what Arne Slot has done. Give everybody a chance, and slowly but surely implement his system, making sure he's got players to play that system. He can then go to the board and the technical staff at the end of the season, or even before then – around May time – and say: 'I want to keep him, him and him, he could fit into the system, these can't'."
According to Spanish website Fichajes.net, Manchester United have identified Napoli forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia as a top summer transfer target. They are set to face stiff competition from Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
The Red Devils, who could opt to sell Marcus Rashford and Antony next year, are prepared to offer Kvaratskhelia a significant pay hike. They are ready to offer the Georgian £7.5 million-a-year in wages to finalise a permanent transfer.
Kvaratskhelia, 23, has cemented himself as one of the best players in the Serie A since joining Napoli from Georgian side Dinamo Batumi for around £11 million in 2022. He has registered 30 goals and 28 assists in 103 total games for Napoli.
