Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has stated that he was blown away by Lamine Yamal's talent when he saw the youngster for the first time. The Spanish winger enjoyed his breakout campaign last season and has taken his performances to another level in the ongoing campaign.
While speaking about Yamal in an interview, Lewandowski said (via Fabrizio Romano):
“The first time I saw Lamine Yamal in training, he was 15 years old, I've seen a lot of talent in my life, but never like that: oh my God, it was amazing.”
Lewandowski added:
“How does he do that at that age? I swear it's impossible.”
The 17-year-old won the 2024 Kopa Trophy for his outstanding performances for Barcelona and the Spanish national team in 2023-24. He helped La Roja win the 2024 European Championships with four assists and one goal in seven appearances.
Yamal and Lewandowski, along with Raphinha, have driven La Blaugrana's resurgence in the 2024-25 campaign. The Spaniard has netted six goals and registered eight assists in 16 games across all competitions. The Polish striker, on the other hand, has scored 19 goals and provided two assists in 17 appearances.
Barcelona are ranked first in the LaLiga standings, having registered 33 points from 13 games this season. In the UEFA Champions League, they are ranked sixth, having registered nine points from four games so far.
Robert Lewandowski is willing to extend his contract with Barcelona for one more season, as per SPORT (via Transfer News Live).
Lewandowski has been remarkable in front of goal since joining La Blaugrana in July 2022. The Pole has risen to another level this season under Hansi Flick. He has scored the most goals in LaLiga this season (14). His impressive attacking performance has been pivotal for Flick's side in the LaLiga title race.
Lewandowski's contract at the Camp Nou is set to expire in June 2026, but the 36-year-old is willing to extend his contract for one more season. As per the report, Barca are open to extending his deal as well.
