Liverpool have been handed a major injury boost as Trent Alexander-Arnold is reportedly back in training. The Reds are gearing up for their blockbuster Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Wednesday, November 27.
As per a report by James Pearce of The Athletic, Alexander-Arnold could be in line to play against Real Madrid. The right-back has been out injured since November 9 but has missed just one match for the Reds – a 3-2 win over Southampton last weekend.
The defender had picked up the injury during the first half of the Reds' Premier League game against Aston Villa. Talking about the extent of the injury, manager Arne Slot had said (via India Today):
"It's difficult to say how serious it is, but it's always serious if a player goes out in the first half. Not because I didn't like him, but because he asked for it himself. He didn't ask for it because he was tired, he asked for it because he felt something. That's first of all not a good sign, but it is always difficult so close after the game to tell you exactly what it is. Let's wait and see. I would be surprised if we will see him playing for the England national team this week, but hopefully he can."
Alexander-Arnold is reportedly in contract talks with Liverpool as he enters the final few months of his deal with the club.
Michael Owen warned Trent Alexander-Arnold that he could tarnish his Liverpool legacy should he leave the club for Real Madrid. However, he stressed that the defender had done everything for the Anfield club and told The Telegraph:
"The Trent situation is an interesting one… Trent has done everything for Liverpool. He adores Liverpool. If he goes, no one should begrudge him a different experience in his life and career. Whatever happens he should be regarded as a hero. Sadly, it does affect the way people view you. It will tarnish him in some eyes even though it shouldn’t."
Real Madrid are said to be interested in signing Trent Alexander-Arnold as they look to bolster their squad. He is reportedly seen as an ideal long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal, who is currently out due to an ACL injury.
