Manchester City superstar Bernardo Silva has named Liverpool as the team he likes to defeat more ahead of Manchester United. The Portuguese midfielder also insisted that he considers Liverpool as the toughest opponents in the Premier League ahead of Arsenal.

Silva has been a key cog in Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side who have dominated English and European football over the years. He has won 17 trophies in Manchester City colors since joining the Sky Blues in 2017 from AS Monaco.

On being asked which team he considers the toughest opponent in the Premier League, the versatile midfielder named Liverpool. He admitted that he immensely respects the Reds and credited them for how they have fared against the Cityzens in recent years. On Pro Direct Soccer, he was asked (as quoted by TBR Football):

“Who would you say your toughest opponent is in the Premier League?”

Silva replied:

“I always tend to go to Liverpool because I respect them a lot because of how good they are and how tough it was for us over the years to beat them. So Liverpool players are always the toughest I would say."

Silva was then asked which team he likes to beat more between local rivals Manchester United and competitive rivals Liverpool. The Manchester City midfielder again opted to choose the Merseyside giants over the Red Devils.

“Who do you prefer to beat, Man United or Liverpool?”, he was asked.

Silva replied:

“As I said, Liverpool were our biggest rivals, I’ve been at Man City for seven years and a few months, and Liverpool were always the toughest, but I like beating Man United as well."

Bernardo Silva moved to Manchester City in 2017 in a deal worth a reported £43.6 million from AS Monaco. He has made 364 appearances for the Cityzens, scoring 67 times and producing 69 assists.

The midfielder has so far faced Liverpool 18 times winning on six occasions, drawing six, and losing the other six. He has ended up on the winning side on 16 out of 21 meetings against Arsenal and 11 out of 17 occasions against Manchester United.

Liverpool plotting a move for former Manchester United defender amid interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move for former Manchester United left-back Alvaro Fernández Carreras. However, Arne Slot's side could face competition from Real Madrid and Barcelona for the Benfica left-back's signature.

As reported by Spanish media outlet AS, Carreras has caught the eye of European elites with his exploits for Benfica. The Spaniard has done extremely well at Benfica since initially joining the Portuguese giants, initially on loan, in January 2024.

Benfica signed the 21-year-old permanently from Manchester United in the summer reportedly for just €6 million. They are now expected to demand a big fee for his sale, with his contract expiring in 2029. The Spain under-21 international has made 25 appearances across competitions for Benfica, registering one goal and one assist.
