Former Manchester United winger Gordon Hill has hit out at Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim after his side suffered a disappointing 0-2 loss to Wolves in the Premier League on Thursday. The former Red Devil star also named Ruud van Nistelrooy as his preferred manager at Old Trafford.
It goes without mentioning that Amorim has had a very difficult start to life at Manchester United after taking over from Erik ten Hag midway through this season. The Portuguese tactician has won just four of his 10 games in charge of the club so far, drawing one and losing the remaining five.
If anything, the loss to Wolves only rubs salt to the tactician's wound at Old Trafford, and Gordon Hill wasn't impressed with Amorim. The Englishman held nothing back as he lashed out at the Portuguese and his boys in the wake of their mediocre performance at the Molineux Stadium.
“I am tired of hearing about new systems, you have 11 v 11, simple, attack as much as you can. and defend them from scoring. why do these coaches complicate the game, as I said before Football is a simple game complicated by coaches. please don’t reply to this. I have had it,” he wrote on X.
Prior to Ruben Amorim's appointment, another former player Ruud van Nistelrooy was at the helm of affairs at Manchester United. The Dutchman had a promising spell, winning four and drawing one of his five games.
Gordon Hill argued that the Red Devils should've stuck with the ex-striker instead of appointing Amorim.
"We should have let Ruud have it,” the Englishman boldly stated.
Ruud van Nistelrooy is currently the manager of Leicester City. He was appointed by the club on November 29 and has already overseen five games so far.
The Portuguese recorded a 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town in his first fixture in charge of the Red Devils on November 24. He went on to win his next two games, beating Bodo Glimt 3-2 and Everton 4-0 before suffering his first defeat against Arsenal (0-2) on December 4.
Amorim followed it up with a 2-3 defeat versus Nottingham Forest before going on to beat Viktoria Plzen and Manchester City 2-1 each in his next two games. However, since then, the tactician has not won any other game, suffering three defeats on the bounce against Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth, and Wolves.
Up next, Manchester United will lock horns with Newcastle United in the Premier League on December 30 before going head-to-head with Liverpool and Arsenal on January 5 and 12, respectively.
