Liverpool superstar Virgil van Dijk recently opened up about his contract renewal with the Reds, claiming there's no update on the situation. The defender's current deal expires in June 2025.

Virgil van Dijk is widely considered a Liverpool legend and one of the greatest defenders to have played for the club. The 33-year-old center-back has made 292 appearances for the Reds between 2018 and 2024. The Dutchman has won a UEFA Champions League title, a Premier League title, and one FA Cup with the club, among other honors.

However, Van Dijk's future at Anfield seems uncertain for now, with his current contract set to expire next summer. From January 1, the Dutchman will be allowed to negotiate deals with clubs outside the Premier League. However, he is yet to sign the dotted line for a contract extension with the Reds.

Talking to reporters after Liverpool's 6-3 win in the league over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (December 22), Virgil van Dijk opened up about his contract renewal. He said (via GOAL):

"There is no deadline at all. We will see what the future brings. Is there an update? No."

According to new reports from CaughtOffside, Virgil van Dijk is keen on staying at Liverpool. The defender is reportedly seeking a two-year extension with favorable financial conditions to seal the deal.

Meanwhile, the Merseysiders are also working to secure the future of two other key players, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold. Like Van Dijk, both their contracts also expire in June 2025 with no deal agreed with the Reds yet.

In the aforementioned conversation with reporters on December 22, Virgil van Dijk touched on Mohamed Salah's contract renewal at Liverpool. The Egyptian forward is yet to sign a contract extension and will also be free to negotiate with clubs outside the Premier League from January 1.

"The numbers speak for themselves. He’s a very special athlete. He’s done amazingly for the club and hopefully, he can play his best season ever for the club, stay important with his goals and assists, and be clinical. He is a professional. We’ve been there, he’s been there, so onto the next (game). And next season? I don’t know," Van Dijk said.

Mohamed Salah has been in exceptional form for the Reds this season, recording 18 goals and 15 assists in 24 outings across competitions. Following his brace vs Tottenham on December 22, the Egyptian became the Reds' fourth all-time leading goalscorer.

According to CaughtOffside, the Merseysiders have begun contract negotiations with Salah with a potential two-year extension on the cards. The deal will reportedly also include the option of an additional 12 months.
