Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim wasn't happy with the Red Devils for their 2-2 Premier League draw at Liverpool on Sunday (January 5) despite opening the scoring.

After a goalless first half, Lisandro Martinez opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the 52nd minute. The hosts , though, reacted brilliantly, with Cody Gakpo equalising inside seven minutes before Mohamed Salah's 70th-minute penalty gave them the lead.

Manchester United didn't relent in attack, and it paid off, as they found the equaliser through Amad Diallo in the 80th minute. Despite clear chances, neither side could find a winner.

The Red Devils were widely expected to lose against leaders Liverpool, after picking up four consecutive losses across competitions. A draw is a better result than expected, but Amorim believes his players could have done much better, telling Sky Sports (via Tribuna):

"We should get mad and disappointed. More than the other day against Newcastle, Bournemouth, Nottingham ... today, we need to be really disappointed.
"I think I get more mad because of the other games. It's even harder to understand some things. This is not about the system, the technique, it's about something else. The way we were really competitive. That is the crucial thing."

Manchester United are 13th in the Premier League, having failed to win in four games since their 2-1 win over Manchester City on December 15. Liverpool, meanwhile, are six points ahead of second-placed Arsenal with a game in hand.

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes echoes manager's thoughts on Liverpool draw

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has echoed his manager's thoughts on their 2-2 draw against the Reds. The playmaker provided an assist for Martinez's first goal and won 11 duels.

Fernandes told Sky Sports (via Tribuna):

"We’ve been criticised and fairly, the position in the table shows that. We can’t be happy with the draw. We need points more than they do. We can't be satisfied.
"I'm pretty upset. If we can show this at Anfield, why can't we do this every week? We need to be aware that we need much more from ourselves."

Next, Manchester United face Arsenal at the Emirates on January 12 in their FA Cup opener, while Liverpool take on Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg at New White Hart Lane on Wednesday (January 8).
