Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes has sent a warning to Barcelona ahead of the Supercopa de Espana final on Sunday (January 12) at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium. The Blaugrana secured a 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao earlier this week in the semi-final.
Goals from Gavi and Lamine Yamal gave Hansi Flick's team the chance to get their hands on their first silverware for the season. Meanwhile, Madrid have already won the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup this campaign.
On Thursday, Los Blancos set up an El Clasico final after a 3-0 win over Mallorca in the semi-final. Jude Bellingham and Rodrygo found the back of the net, while Martin Valjent netted an own goal.
Rodrygo acknowledged that it will be a difficult game against Barcelona on Sunday.
“We are improving every day, and we want the first title of the year to gain confidence for the rest of the season. It’s going to be a difficult game. We’re prepared, and we want the title,” said Rodrygo.
The Blaugrana got the better of Real Madrid earlier this season in the league. They ran riot against their bitter rivals at the Santiago Bernabeu in October, securing a 4-0 win. Robert Lewandowski scored a brace, while Raphinha and Lamine Yamal also found the back of the net.
Barcelona are the most successful club in the Supercopa de Espana, with 14 titles. They are closely followed by Real Madrid, who have won the tournament 13 times.
Los Blancos are the reigning champions, having beaten the Blaugrana 4-1 in the final last year. Vinicius Junior scored a hat-trick, while Rodrygo Goes also found the back of the net, with Robert Lewandowski's strike proving to be mere consolation.
Carlo Ancelotti's team arrive in this year's game in a good run of form. Real Madrid are leading the La Liga title race after 19 games, two points ahead of Atletico Madrid, who have a game in hand.
Los Blancos have won eight of their last 10 games across competitions, losing just once. Barcelona, meanwhile, are third in the league, five points behind their bitter rivals.
The Blaugrana have five wins and three defeats in their last 10 games across competitions. However, with Lamine Yamal back fit, Flick's team cannot be taken lightly.
