Former goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has hit out at Chelsea's Robert Sanchez after their 2-1 loss to Fulham in the Premier League on Thursday (December 26). He believes the Spaniard's decision to kick the ball up the pitch in the final minutes of the game cost them a point.

Speaking on BBC, Schwarzer said Sanchez should not have cleared the ball when he could pass it to Tosin Adarabioyo near him. He opined that the poor clearance helped Fulham, saying:

"Robert Sanchez looked to hit a massive diagonal and he doesn't hit it properly. That enabled Fulham to hit them on the counter, and players were caught out of position. The goalkeeper has to look at himself; it was a poor clearance."

He added:

"If you're a goalkeeper, you're only as good as your worst mistake."

Chelsea suffered their first loss in the Premier League since losing to Liverpool at Anfield on October 20. It was also their first loss in all competitions since losing to Newcastle United in the EFL Cup on October 30.

Enzo Maresca sends message to Chelsea players after Fulham loss

Enzo Maresca has reckoned that it was important for his players to keep composure in the league game against Fulham. He added that they failed to control the match in the second half.

Maresca said (via Irish national daily newspaper Irish Examiner):

"It's a bad feeling. I said many times when you cannot win it's important that you don't lose. I think the first 15-20 minutes of the second half has been the part that I didn't like because we conceded so many transitions, too many transitions."
"First half I think we controlled that very good. We scored, we created chances and then second half I think we give them too much energy in the first 15-20 minutes. It's a game that for me before you attack you need to give passes, passes, passes because that keeps us together and in the moment that we lose the ball we can be aggressive. But if we want to attack with one or two passes then we are stretched, we are open and they can hurt us. It's a lesson that we can learn," he added.

Chelsea are second on the Premier League table but could slip if Arsenal defeat Ipswich Town on Friday (December 27). The Blues are seven points behind leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand.
