Barcelona set condition to sign 22-year-old LaLiga star next summer: Reports
According to Fichajes.net, Barcelona has stated that they will only try to sign Nico Williams if he expresses a willingness to join them. This latest development comes in the aftermath of Barca's failed attempt to sign the Spaniard last summer.
Williams was brilliant in attack for Athletic Bilbao last season. In 37 appearances, he scored eight goals and registered 19 assists for Bilbao. Williams also played a pivotal role in La Roja's Euro 2024 triumph.
Blaugrana are looking to avoid a repeat of last summer as they've reportedly stated their stance on William's pursuit. The board have decided to only pursue the player if he expresses an intention to move.
Despite a decline in his recent form and registering only five goal contributions in 16 appearances this season, Williams remains an important target for Blaugrana. It is believed that the Spaniard would be a decent competitor for Raphinha on the left wing.
Similarly, his ability to feature on the right wing would help Lamine Yamal. Williams is contracted at Bilbao till June 2027 and he's valued at €70 million by Transfermarkt.

Blaugrana are currently exploring the option of selling Frenkie de Jong next summer, according to a report by SPORT (via Barca Universal). This latest development is tied to De Jong's contract, which expires in June 2026. If De Jong fails to renew his contract, Barca might be open to selling him next summer.
Barca are trying to avoid a situation where De Jong would leave as a free agent in June 2026. The Dutchman joined Barcelona from Ajax for a reported €86 million in July 2019.
As such, Barca might be looking to get a little return on investment while the midfielder has turned down offers from the club. The LaLiga outfit are reportedly also willing to release the player for free to improve their financial situation.
In 222 games for Blaugrana, De Jong has netted 17 goals and registered 21 assists.
