Hansi Flick has asked Barcelona to offload Frenkie de Jong, according to Fichajes.net (via Barca Universal). The German manager was particularly unimpressed by the player's contribution in the 2-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in the Supercopa de Espana semifinal on Wednesday, January 8.

De Jong started the game from the bench and replaced Gavi in the 73rd minute. Flick introduced him in the game to add a spark of energy to the team, but the Dutchman turned out to be a disappointment.

The 27-year-old made a defensive mistake that led to an Athletic Bilbao goal, which, thankfully, was ruled out for offside. De Jong did show promise while going forward, but it wasn't enough to convince the German manager.

Flick has apparently come to the conclusion that the Dutch midfielder doesn't suit his tactical setup and has instructed Barcelona to let him go. The player is under contract with the Catalans until 2026 and hasn't agreed to a new deal yet.

De Jong has appeared 15 times across competitions this season, but only three of them have been starts. Despite his struggles, the Dutchman isn't short of options, with clubs across the continent apparently eyeing him with interest.

The LaLiga giants are reportedly open to his departure, although the conditions aren't ideal for the club. Given the player's contract situation, Barcelona may have to let Frenkie de Jong go for a reduced fee this year.

Barcelona have reached the final of the Supercopa de Espana following their win over Athletic Bilbao on Wednesday, January 8. The Catalans will face either Real Madrid or Mallorca at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on Sunday, January 12, for the trophy.

Should Los Blancos get the better of the club from the Balearic Islands on Thursday, January 9, they will set up the second El Clasico of the season. The two LaLiga superpowers have already met earlier this season, in October, at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona secured a stunning 4-0 win over their bitter rivals that day, with Hansi Flick's team running riot in Real Madrid's backyard. Robert Lewandowski scored a brace, while Raphinha and Lamine Yamal also got on the scoresheet.

However, the tables have since turned, with Los Blancos on the rise in recent times and the Catalans playing catch up. Real Madrid are currently leading the LaLiga title race after 19 games, five points ahead of Hansi Flick's team in third place.
