Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker has reportedly emerged as a surprise transfer target for reigning Super Lig champions Galatasaray of late.
Alisson, who turned 32 last month, is considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world right now. He has made eight appearances across competitions for his club this season, registering five clean sheets.
According to Turkish website Sabah Spor, Galatasaray are interested in adding the ex-AS Roma player to their ranks next summer. They are hoping that current Reds goalkeeping coach Claudio Taffarel, who is a former Galatasaray player, could help facilitate a potential move.
Alisson, whose current contract will expire in June 2027, could decide to depart the Merseyside outfit at the end of the ongoing season. His starting spot is expected to be under threat next term with new signing Giorgi Mamardashvili set to return from his loan stint at Valencia.
Mamardashvili, 24, secured a transfer to Arne Slot's outfit in a potential £29 million move from Valencia earlier this summer. He has kept three shutouts and conceded 17 goals in 11 La Liga appearances this season.
On the other hand, Alisson has made 271 overall appearances for Liverpool since arriving from Roma in 2018. He has recorded 119 clean sheets and conceded just 239 goals for his club, lifting eight trophies so far.
In his column for BBC, former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton predicted a 2-0 Premier League win for the Reds in their clash at Southampton this Sunday. He wrote:
"Liverpool could not have wished for a better start under Arne Slot, whose side are five points clear at the top. This is a game where everyone is expecting them to easily beat bottom side Southampton, and understandably so."
Suggesting that Southampton could pose a problem, Sutton added:
"I am expecting Liverpool to win too, but I don't think it will be an absolute walloping. Saints are scrapping and they proved they can be resilient when they lost narrowly to Manchester City at the end of last month, so they can make it hard for Slot's side too."
The Anfield outfit are atop the Premier League table with 28 points from 11 games, while Southampton are 20th with four points from 11 matches.
Arne Slot's side have registered a whopping 11 wins and just one loss in their past 13 games across all competitions against Russell Martin's club.
