Manchester United forward Antony has reportedly taken his former team Ajax to court on the grounds of the Dutch club unlawfully fining him before his move to the Red Devils.

Antony, 24, secured a permanent switch worth up to £86 million from Ajax to Ruben Amorim's side in the summer of 2022. During the negotiation stage of the transfer, he was fined by Ajax for missing training sessions without consent.

Now, according to Dutch publication AD, Antony has filed a case against the Eredivisie giants for unlawful behaviour in the 2022-23 season. The Brazilian had first contacted an arbitration committee six months ago to resolve the issue.

Antony, who was allegedly fined a few hundred thousand euros by Ajax in 2022, has failed to establish himself as a starter at Manchester United. He has started just three of his 12 overall appearances for his club so far this campaign.

Overall, the left-footed winger has found the back of the opposition net 12 times and laid out five assists in 94 total matches for Manchester United.

Gaetan Bong claims Manchester United target was 'mediocre' at former Premier League club

Over the last few months, Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has cemented himself as one of the most sought-after number nines in the world. The 26-year-old Sweden international has allegedly attracted interest from Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

However, former Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gaeton Bong has insisted that the Sporting CP striker was sub-par during his time at the Seagulls from January 2018 to July 2021. He told French outlet RMC Sport (h/t Metro):

"Everyone who knew him in his early days in England will tell you the same thing. He was a decent and combative striker, but without disrespect, he had quite a few faults. There was nothing to suggest that he was going to explode one day. I remember seeing this guy come into the changing room who didn't look like much."

Sharing more thoughts on the Manchester United target, Bong added:

"It was surprising to see him there because Brighton were used to recruiting people who were fast and not bothered with the ball for their position, already had an imposing physique. But how can I put it, technically and in his finishing, it was... mediocre, for example, he was far from the level of Glenn Murray, who was our starting No.9."

Since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023, Gyokeres has netted 75 goals and provided 21 assists in 80 overall matches for his current club.
