According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has taken up another sport to gain fitness for Ruben Amorim's team. The 27-year-old has reportedly taken up boxing and mixed martial arts to build his fitness.
Rashford came through the club's Carrington youth academy to become a bonafide, homegrown superstar at his boyhood club. Since making his debut under Louis van Gaal, he has made 420 appearances for the 20-time English champions, scoring 135 goals and providing 63 assists.
The Englishman has been one of the best players at the club since his emergence but has found consistency hard to come by. An unnamed source told the Sun:
"Marcus has really started to get into fighting in recent years. He's always enjoyed watching boxing with his mates but he's also developed an interest in MMA as the sport has become more popular. The club know and have no problem with it. They just think it's great extra fitness training."
Marcus Rashford hopes the benefits of his mixed martial arts endeavors will help him integrate into Ruben Amorim's Manchester United team. The Englishman is contracted to the club until the summer of 2028.
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has discussed the trip Marcus Rashford and Casemiro recently took to the United States of America during the international break.
The pair traveled to New York during their break and had drawn criticism, particularly from former Red Devils defender Gary Neville. Speaking with the former defender in a recent interview for Sky Sports, Amorim weighed in on the matter, saying:
“The first thing is it was five days off. The second thing is they received information of ‘five days off’ and they are big boys, they have kids so they decide what to do. The main question here is the club have to set the standard and manage that. They receive the information ‘five days off’, do what you like’. We as a club have to set better standards and we will try to do that."
The Portuguese tactician concluded:
“It’s my decision if they can have five days as a coach, or three days. Or is three days to rest, you cannot fly. This is something the club has to decide. But you cannot put this on the players. They told them they have five days off so they can fly anywhere. Nobody in the club said they cannot fly. They have to live their lives because they are grown men and they have to decide these things. Us as a club have to change in these standards.”
Ruben Amorim will take charge of his first game at Manchester United, who are thirteenth in the league table, against Ipswich Town on Sunday (November 24).
