Manchester United have reportedly given up on their pursuit to sign Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies this summer. Davies' current contract with the Bavarians ends in June 2025, making him a free-agent this summer.
There has been much speculation over the future of Davies, who's been heavily linked to an exit in the summer of 2025. While Real Madrid remain the favorites to secure his services next summer, Manchester United were also among the clubs linked with the left-back recently.
The 24-year-old is best known for his impeccable speed and exceptional ball control, making him an apt signing for multiple big clubs. In 148 overall appearances in the Bundesliga, Davies has helped maintain 48 clean sheets for Bayern Munich.
According to a report by The Athletic (h/t Bavarian Football Works), Manchester United have pulled out of the race to sign Davies despite their interest. The Canadian speedster's wage demands are reportedly too high for the Red Devils, making it difficult to reach an agreement with the player's side. His high salary demands have also reportedly been a point of contention in his contract negotiations with Bayern Munich.
According to The Athletic journalist Mario Cortegana, Alphonso Davies has already agreed on terms with Real Madrid to sign for them in the summer of 2024 or 2025. However, with Bayern also reportedly proceeding towards a contract renewal, the saga is far from over.
According to The Sun, Manchester United are keen on signing Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens as a potential replacement for Andre Onana. Lammens left Club Brugge to join Royal Antwerp in the summer of 2023. The Belgian shot-stopper is reportedly valued at £20 million.
The reported decision to replace Onana comes amid the keeper's consistently poor form under Ruben Amorim. In 25 appearances for the Red Devils across competitions this season, Onana has conceded 33 goals and kept only seven clean sheets. Due to Onana's poor form since his arrival from Inter Milan in the summer of 2023, Manchester United have reportedly decided to sign another goalkeeper in 2025.
The Red Devils' target, Senne Lammens has had a comparatively better run than Onana this season. He has conceded 21 goals in 20 outings for Royal Antwerp in the Jupiler Pro League and kept five clean sheets. If all goes well, the Red Devils may look to bring Lammens to Old Trafford in the summer of 2025.
