Real Madrid have made a decision on Ballon d'Or winner Rodri, following the Manchester City midfielder's recent transfer admission. During a recent interview, he revealed that he would not be against a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Spaniard was speaking to Cadena SER about his contract situation at the Etihad Stadium, before adding (via SNL24):

"Obviously when Madrid, the best and most successful club in history, calls you, it is an honor. You always have to pay attention."

However, this comes amidst little love between the player and the Spanish club. Madrid notably refused to send any delegates or players to the Ballon d'Or award ceremony after they learned that Vinicius Jr would not win the 2024 award.

Rodri has notably attacked the Brazilian winger recently, telling the media that Vinicius' attitude needed to improve (via Madrid Universal):

“I think he’s a smart guy and with time he will realize that the more he pays attention on the field, the better he will be. Athletes are not just what you represent on the field, but also off it."

Real Madrid were reportedly interested in a move for Rodri, prior to the Ballon d'Or debacle. However, they are no longer intent on such a move. According to a report from Spanish outlet Marca (via Madrid Universal), the superstar midfielder is not part of their near-future plans.

Los Blancos have recently lost Toni Kroos, who decided to retire from football in the summer of 2024. They are yet to replace him, and they have since been affected with struggles in the midfield.

However, Rodri could be a costly venture, and Los Blancos are not prepared to spend high to sign him. The aspect of dressing room harmony cannot be ignored, especially with the 28-year-old's recent spat with Vinicius.

Rodri speaks about Real Madrid's Ballon d'Or snub

Rodri has spoken about Real Madrid's decision to snub the Ballon d'Or gala ceremony. The Spanish giants took the football world by surprise, especially as they had seven players nominated for the award.

They went on to win the best men's club of the year, while their manager Carlo Ancelotti won the best men's coach of the year. However, no delegate was available from the club to receive these awards. Rodri has spoken about the club skipping the ceremony, telling COPE radio (via ESPN):

"Why would it hurt me [that Vinícius wasn't there]? It was my moment, to enjoy with my family. The last thing I'd be thinking about is people who weren't there, and didn't want to participate."

Rodri is currently out of contention due to an ACL injury that could keep him on the sidelines for the entire season. This will give Vinicius another chance to potentially clinch the Ballon d'Or next year, if he can succeed with Real Madrid this season.
