A rising star of Hollywood, Zendaya has proven her worth by delivering compelling performances on TV and in films. Not only a talented actress but also a singer, she made her debut in the Disney Channel sitcom Shake It Up in 2010 and then went on to feature in K.C. Undercover as the main lead.

The actress rose to prominence with her role in Euphoria, where she played a drug-addicted teenager, Rue. She also gained popularity for playing MJ in Spider-Man: Homecoming and its later sequels. Her other movies include Dune, Challengers, and she is also the recipient of an Emmy and a Golden Globe award.

1) Her name’s meaning

The popular actress’s name has roots in her German and African heritage. While her full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman, the actress has stated that her first name is inspired by a word in the Shona tribe’s language that signifies giving thanks. The actress said in an interview to Popstar! magazine in 2011 that her father likes the letter Z and Zen and that is why he chose this name for her.

Zendaya is extremely close to her parents and as both of them are teachers, so it was natural that she was attracted to that profession. Her father worked as a PE teacher and her mother was even honored in Oakland for inspiring students with Shakespeare and literature. Zendaya has stated in an interview to Teen Vogue in 2016 that this environment instilled a devotion towards education and if she wasn’t an actress, she would definitely be a teacher.

Many people might not know that the actress's first gig was not as a Disney star but as a backup dancer alongside Selena Gomez in a Sears commercial. The Dune actress shared during a 2013 interview with J-14 that when she was 12-years-old, she appeared in the advertisement as a dancer along with other kids that went on to be Disney stars. The commercial also had Ross Lynch, Leo Howard, and Selena Gomez.


4) Her love for Hannah Montana

The actress has stated in an interview with Flare magazine that she was a big fan of the sitcom Hannah Montana. She recalled that when the Disney show came out, she was so upset that she started crying because she wanted to do a show just like that. Therefore, just like many other kids, the Dune actress, too, grew up watching and loving Hannah Montana.


5) The actress's unusual talent

The A-list actress also has her quirks. A few years back, the actress demonstrated in the Secret Talent Theatre segment of Vanity Fair that her teeth are not sensitive to cold and she can therefore bite directly into an ice-cream using her front teeth. The Challengers actress has also stated many times that she loves ice-cream and specifically the coffee flavor from Häagen-Dazs.
