Hotel Transylvania 2, like the other films in the franchise, introduces the well-known character of Dracula in a different light. The same is the case with this movie by Mel Brooks.
Leslie Nielsen stars as Count Dracula who travels to England with the help of his new slave, Renfield, portrayed by Peter MacNicol. He sets his sights on Amy Yasbeck's Mina after meeting her at an opera house. When he proceeds to drink the blood of her friend Lucy (Lysette Anthony), she becomes pale. Mina's father then calls on Professor Van Helsing (Brooks) to find the problem.
The clever tongue-in-cheek humor is the movie's main highlight. Dracula: Dead and Loving It doesn't take itself too seriously and neither should viewers. Unlike Drac in Hotel Transylvania 2, Nielsen's Dracula is very much the antagonist but he is still able to make the viewer laugh with his eccentric antics.
Where to watch: Dracula: Dead and Loving It is available on Apple TV+, Prime Video, Tubi and Roku.
In Hotel Transylvania 2, Drac is constantly finding himself in situations that are outside his comfort zone. The central character in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows also knows a thing or two about feeling out of depth.
In the lead is Johnny Depp who plays Barnabas Collins, a wealthy young man who is turned into a vampire by a vengeful witch, Angelique, portrayed by Eva Green. Decades after being buried by an angry mob, Barnabas manages to escape his tomb and hopes to restore the family name to its former glory.
The fact that Barnabas wakes up to a changed world lends itself to many hilarious moments that will bring a smile to the viewer's lips. The witty screenplay is complemented by striking effects, intriguing characters and Burton's distinctive cinematic style.
Where to watch: Dark Shadows can be viewed on Max, Prime Video and Apple TV+.
If there is one thing that Hotel Transylvania 2 has in abundance, it is wacky characters who routinely find themselves in trouble. What We Do in the Shadows by Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi also features central characters who display a range of laughter-inducing eccentricities.
Shot in the style of a mockumentary, it follows the lives of four housemates, Viago, Vladislav, Deacon, and Petyr, who are all vampires. In addition to Clement and Waititi, it also stars Jonathan Brugh and Ben Fransham in the lead.
Fans would agree that there is never a dull day at Drac's hotel in Hotel Transylvania 2 and the same can be said about the flat in Wellington which witnesses regular clashes between the four temperamental flatmates. This movie isn't meant to be cinematic or impactful. It promises one thing - a fun time, and it certainly delivers the laughs from start to finish.
Where to watch: What We Do in the Shadows can be streamed on Netflix, Prime Video and Apple TV+.
Even though Hotel Transylvania 2 is meant to be a comedy, it still manages to share meaningful messages about love and family. Monster Family by Holger Tappe also does the same.
Emily Watson voices the character of Emma Wishbone who is struggling to get her family to see eye-to-eye with one another. But the complications start to escalate when a witch's curse turns them into monsters. They have to figure out a way to work together and turn themselves back into humans.
This entertaining animated film shares poignant messages about the importance of family and how it is possible to overcome difficult problems by sticking together. The premise is nothing out of the ordinary but the endearing characters and witty humor combine to create an engaging experience that is fun for viewers of all ages.
Where to watch: Monster Family is available for streaming on Netflix and Prime Video.
Mavis and Johnny from Hotel Transylvania 2 are very different but their connection is strong because they understand each other. The Little Vampire 3D by Richard Claus and Karsten Kiilerich also features an endearing bond between a young vampire and a human.
Tony, a 13-year-old boy voiced by Amy Saville, is obsessed with vampires. During a holiday, he just so happens to meet one who is the same age as him. Rookery, voiced by Jim Carter, shows him around and they soon become friends. When a vicious vampire hunter arrives to capture Rookery's family, Tony steps up to help them.
Like Hotel Transylvania 2, The Little Vampire 3D specifically caters to a young audience which means that there are very few startling horror scenes. This movie thrives on striking animation, witty dialogue and likable characters who are sure to keep the audiences invested.
Where to watch: The Little Vampire 3D is available on MUBI, Prime Video and Roku.
Viewers looking for movies like Hotel Transylvania 2 definitely cannot pass up on its exciting sequel, Hotel Transylvania 3. In this installment directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, Mavis thinks that her father needs a break from managing the hotel and decides to book a cruise.
And so, Mavis along with Drac, Johnny, Dennis, Vlad, and other hotel guests board a cruise ship named Legacy. As Drac has been feeling particularly lonely in the months leading up to the cruise, he cannot help but fall for the charismatic captain, Ericka. But he doesn't know that she has a secret agenda.
Like Hotel Transylvania 2, this movie has plenty of humor and monster chaos that fans of the franchise have come to expect and appreciate. As always, the storyline is fun while also sharing relevant messages about celebrating differences.

It is fun to follow the lives of Drac's family in Hotel Transylvania 2 because their lives are very different from usual. Likewise, the family in The Addams Family also leads a life that outsiders will find surprising.
Directed by Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan, this movie is based on cartoon characters created by Charles Addams. It follows the eccentric Addams family as they move into a suburb in New Jersey. They don't really mingle with the other people in the neighborhood but things change when their older child, Wednesday, becomes friends with the daughter of a reality show host.
The narrative of this funny animated movie, like Hotel Transylvania 2, carries messages of togetherness and family bonding. Even though the cartoon has been around for quite some time now, the movie does a good job of re-introducing the characters so that new fans can feel connected to them. It is chaotic, exciting, funny and heartwarming at the same time.
Where to watch: The Addams Family is available for streaming on Prime Video and Roku.
