Netflix added a new action thriller, Carry-On, to its library on December 13, 2024. This movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by T.J. Fixman, has a runtime of two hours. It stars Taron Egerton, Jason Bertman, and Sofia Carson among others.

Following its release Carry-On, like Bruce Willis's 1998 film Die-Hard, has become the subject of a unique debate. Many perceive the 1990s classic Die Hard as a holiday film due to its Christmas-themed plot. Similarly, Netflix's latest addition, Carry-On, has a plot and movie time frame set on Christmas Eve, as hinted by the logline:

"An airport security officer races to outsmart a mysterious traveler forcing him to let a dangerous item slip onto a Christmas Eve flight."

It is up to the audience to decide whether or not the film is a Christmas movie. However, given that it is set on Christmas Eve, Carry-On may be called a Christmas movie.

The film follows Ethan Kopek, a TSA agent at LAX airport who is blackmailed by a mysterious traveler. Ethan does not enjoy his job at the airport, but he has a very supportive and charming girlfriend, Nora, who also works there. When the couple discovers they are expecting a child, Nora encourages her boyfriend to pursue his goal of becoming an officer, which is what she wants from him this Christmas.

However, things become risky when a mysterious terrorist known as the Traveler threatens Nora, forcing Ethan to smuggle contraband into the plane. Ethan is brave and tries to save his unborn infant and his girlfriend by protecting them from the Traveler while also preventing the contraband from being loaded onto the plane.

Keeping it spoiler-free, the film has great pacing, a good storyline, and not too many cliffhangers. Also, the mystery and the way it unfolds is easy to understand for viewers, as the story isn’t complicated.

This is the ideal one-time watch for Christmas, whether with family or alone. The thriller is now ranked at number four on the Netflix charts, at the time of writing this article.
