Jenny Slate, acclaimed for her roles in Parks and Recreation and Obvious Child, embraced motherhood in 2021, with the birth of her daughter with her husband, Ben Shattuck. The couple's journey into parenthood was initially kept private.
Slate revealed her pregnancy during a virtual appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers in December 2020, humorously attributing her baby bump to excessive bread baking during the COVID-19 lockdown. She quipped, as reported by People,
"I hunkered down and baked a lot of bread, but I just wanna say I might have baked too much bread or eaten too much bread — you tell me," before standing up to display her pregnancy.
Jenny Slate has one child, her daughter Ida Lupine Shattuck, born on February 3, 2021. The name Ida Lupine holds special significance for the couple. Slate shared that they "loved the name," and Lupine is one of their favorite flowers. This thoughtful naming reflects their shared appreciation for nature and personal connections.
Jenny Slate has publicly expressed her support for her It Ends With Us co-star Blake Lively following Lively's s*xual harassment complaint against their director and fellow actor, Justin Baldoni. In a statement shared on Monday, December 24, Slate described the allegations as "terribly dark" and "disturbing." Slate, 42, voiced her solidarity with Lively through a statement obtained by Today.com, saying:
"As Blake Lively's cast mate and friend, I voice my support as she takes action against those reported to have planned and carried out an attack on her reputation. Blake is a leader, loyal friend, and a trusted source of emotional support for me and so many who know and love her."
She further stated:
"What has been revealed about the attack on Blake is terribly dark, disturbing, and wholly threatening. I commend my friend, I admire her bravery, and I stand by her side."
Slate's comments come in the wake of mounting support for Lively from other colleagues and public figures following the filing of her lawsuit against Baldoni.
Blake Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit against Baldoni, 40, accusing him of s*xual harassment and arranging a smear campaign to tarnish her reputation. The complaint also names other defendants, including producer Jamey Heath, Baldoni's production company Wayfarer Studios, its co-founder Steve Sarowitz, and additional individuals alleged to have participated in the campaign against Lively.
According to the legal filing, Lively has suffered "grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety" due to Baldoni's alleged actions, which include "invasive, unwelcome, unprofessional, and s*xually inappropriate behavior."
Baldoni's attorney, Bryan Freedman, denied the allegations, calling them "false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious with an intent to publicly hurt" his client. Following the lawsuit, Justin Baldoni was dropped by his talent agency.
Jenny Slate is not the only individual who has voiced her support for Blake Lively. Co-star Brandon Sklenar also shared a screenshot of Lively's complaint on Instagram, urging his followers to "FOR THE LOVE OF GOD READ THIS" while tagging Lively's account. Additionally, Colleen Hoover, author of the bestselling novel It Ends With Us, on which the film is based, has publicly supported Lively.
The lawsuit details a series of alleged retaliatory actions by Baldoni and his associates, claiming they engaged in a “sophisticated press and digital plan” to smear Blake Lively's reputation. The document accuses Baldoni of attempting to intimidate Lively and others from speaking out about his alleged misconduct on the movie set.
In the movie, Slate's character Allysa is the sister of Baldoni's character, Ryle, and a close confidante to Lively's character, Lily. In August, Lively and Jenny Slate reflected on their friendship while promoting the film. Slate had described Lively as a source of "stability and light" in difficult times, emphasizing the bond they developed during the project.
As for upcoming projects, Jenny Slate is set to appear in the animated series The Great North and has a new comedy special in development. Blake Lively recently wrapped filming on the thriller Proxy and is reportedly attached to several high-profile projects, including a Netflix adaptation of Lady Killer.
