Saif Ali Khan, a prominent figure in Bollywood, is now in stable condition after being stabbed multiple times on January 16, 2025, Thursday. He was attacked early Thursday morning at his Bandra residence in Mumbai.
Khan's condition has been determined to be stable by hospital physicians after the successful conclusion of two surgeries. During the incident, his family, which included his wife Kareena Kapoor Khan and their children, was unharmed. The Mumbai Police are currently conducting an active investigation into the matter, and security measures at the residence have been enhanced.
Khan’s family issued an official statement, assuring fans of his stable condition. Saif Ali Khan’s team stated publicly,
“Saif Ali Khan has come out of surgery and is out of danger. He is currently in recovery, and the doctors are monitoring his progress. All family members are safe, and the police are investigating the incident.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan, his wife, also addressed the media, confirming that their children, Taimur and Jeh, were safe during the ordeal.
The 54-year-old actor sustained injuries during an attempted burglary at approximately 2:30 am IST. The actor engaged in a violent altercation with an intruder who entered his 11th-floor flat, as reported by the Mumbai Police.
The incident resulted in multiple stab wounds, with one injury near his spine, as confirmed by hospital officials. Police sources indicated that Khan intervened to protect household staff involved in the intruder's scuffle. The injured actor was rushed to Lilavati Hospital around 3 am IST by his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, and underwent emergency surgery.
Saif Ali Khan is currently recovering after undergoing emergency procedures at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. According to India Times, the hospital's COO, Dr. Niraj Uttamani, stated:
“Saif Ali Khan suffered six stab wounds, two of which were deep, with one located near his spine. A foreign object was also identified near his spine.”
The foreign object was reportedly removed during surgery and handed over to the police as evidence. Doctors performed a spinal repair surgery due to leaking spinal fluid and conducted plastic surgery for additional wounds.
Following the surgeries, the actor has been placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for close observation. A specialist team, including neurosurgeon Dr. Nitin Dange and plastic surgeon Dr. Leena Jain, are monitoring his condition. Khan’s medical team emphasized that he is stable and on the path to recovery.
Members of the film industry and political figures have expressed their concern and extended wishes for Khan’s speedy recovery.
Actor Jr. NTR shared on social media,
"Shocked and saddened to hear about the attack on Saif sir. Wishing and praying for his speedy recovery."
The Indian Film and Television Directors Association also issued a statement condemning the incident and raising concerns over the lack of security at the residential building.

Mumbai Police have launched a detailed investigation into the attempted burglary and attack. Deputy Commissioner of Police Dixit Gedam told news agency ANI,
“The actor and the intruder had a scuffle. The actor is injured and is being treated. Investigation is ongoing,”
According to Variety, seven teams have been deployed to examine the crime, and security footage from the residence is under review. Household staff are also being questioned as part of the probe.
