As stated above, Novocaine will premiere on Friday, March 14, 2025. Paramount Pictures released the trailer for the movie on December 12, 2024, and it has already garnered over eight million views.
As shown in the trailer, the movie is currently slated for a theatrical release only, with no confirmation of an OTT release. However, since Paramount Pictures is handling distribution, it can be speculated that it might become available on Paramount+ sometime next year.
Novocaine combines intense action with emotional stakes, which is reminiscent of Quaid's other popular character, Hughie from Prime Video's The Boys. The movie is produced by Infrared Pictures, Safehouse Pictures, and Circle of Confusion. Principal photography took place in Cape Town, South Africa.
American actor Jack Quaid plays the role of the main character, Nathan Caine in Novocaine. As a mild-mannered bank executive, Nathan leads a quiet life due to a rare condition called congenital insensitivity to pain (CIP), a disorder that prevents him from feeling physical pain.
Quaid made his big-screen debut with The Hunger Games and gained widespread acclaim for his role as Hughie Campbell in the Amazon Prime series The Boys. He is also the voice of Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks and has appeared in movies such as Logan Lucky, Oppenheimer, and Scream.
Amber Midthunder portrays Nathan Caine's girlfriend in Novocaine. Her abduction during a bank robbery is the reason for his revenge mission, which drives the plot of the movie. In the trailer, Nathan refers to her when he says:
"Do you know what's it like to wait your whole life to meet someone?"
Amber Midthunder is an American actor best known for portraying Naru in Prey, the prequel to the Predator franchise. Her other notable credits include Legion, Rosewell, Longmire, Banshee, Rez Ball, and Reservation Dogs.
The other cast members in the Novocaine movie are as follows:
The official synopsis of the movie reads:
"When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back."
In an interview with JoBlo dated December 12, 2024, Dan Berk and Robert Olsen talked about the creativity behind-the-scenes, saying:
"We knew early on that we had something that would blow audiences away. It does take someone like Jack to carry that tone. The concept is cool, but you still need an actor who can carry the weight of comedy and drama. Because our character can’t feel pain, Jack has to relearn how to take a punch. "
They continued mentioning how Jack retook some scenes to portray his character's inability to feel pain.
"When you get hit, you wince because of the pain. In Nathan’s case, he’s getting hit but can’t feel it. How do you get hit and not react? It’s a difficult line to walk, physically and visually. Sometimes, we’d be filming, and Jack would say, 'I think that looked like I was in pain. Let’s go again, and he’d give us different versions of the scene. It was a huge rush to see all that come together," they said.
