With Nosferatu recently making its way to theatres, there's renewed interest in another famous vampire film, Queen of the Damned, and it's certainly justified. The movie premiered in the United States on February 22, 2002, and was considered an average success.
In 2016, Box Office Mojo by IMDb Pro reported that the film had grossed nearly 46 million dollars at the box office, surpassing its estimated 35 million dollar budget. Although critics weren't particularly fond of the film, it gained recognition for its distinctive storytelling and complex characters. Additionally, it became quite popular for its haunting soundtrack, which enhanced the film's overall atmosphere.
Some notable tracks featured in the Queen of the Damned soundtrack include Not Meant for Me by Wayne Static of Static-X, Redeemer by Marilyn Manson, and System by Chester Bennington of Linkin Park. The story of Queen of the Damned was based on a 1988 novel of the same name written by Anne Rice. The novel was the third in the series of novels in Rice's The Vampire Chronicles book series. The official synopsis for the film from Warner Bros. Movies reads:
"After years of slumber, the legendary vampire has awakened and found acceptance in a tattooed, pierced and black-clad world. He's a rock star. And his awesome goth-riffed sound has echoed around the globe...and stirred to life the fearsome Mother of All Vampires."
The film, directed by Michael Rymer stars, Stuart Townsend as Lestat de Lioncourt and Aliyah as Queen Akasha in the lead roles.
