"Shouldn’t be running a studio"- Fans furious as Sony Pictures CEO defends Madame Web

A recent development with Madame Web left fans fuming after Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra claimed that the movie wasn't "bad," and that the press was behind the failure of the movie. The CEO claimed that the film's performance on Netflix was testimony to the fact that it was better than it was perceived.

Madame Web has an extremely low rating on Rotten Tomatoes, holding only 11% approval, and was universally bashed by critics when it premiered. It was even called the worst superhero movie ever made.

However, with Vinciquerra's comment, fans have come out furiously to protest and took to X to elaborate why the movie was bad and why its Netflix release and viewership didn't matter.

"I don’t know who this person is, but if they honestly truly believe that, they shouldn’t be running a studio," one X user said.

Others agreed with the sentiments and said that the plot of the movie "made no sense," as others claimed that Sony movies failed because they are "out of touch with fans."

"Ummm.. because maybe it was a terrible film? Plot made no sense. Acting was questionable at times. Most the trailer already gave away the scenes they would appear in costume. And it was only "great" on Netflix because people didn't have to pay to watch it. 😂"- another user noted.
"How could you be this out of touch, we hardly like spin offs and then they give us this stretch of a movie and basically hit us with 'be grateful' 💀"a user added.
"It did great on Netflix" That isn't even a good defence actually. The thing is, most people only go to theatres to watch those movies they really wanna watch. On the other hand, if it ain't worth going to the theatre for, people wait for it to arrive on NETFLIX, Prime etc," another user said.
"On the other hand, if it ain't worth going to the theatre for, people wait for it to arrive on NETFLIX, Prime etc."I watched the movie and couldnt get through the first quarter. Yes, it was that bad. That’s y sony movies fail, they are out of touch with fans and worse still in denial"- another user said.

What did Tony Vinciquerra say about Madame Web?

Madame Web was one of the most bashed superhero movies ever after its release. However, Sony Pictures CEO Tony Vinciquerra spoke out in favor of the movie in a recent interview with the LA Times. The CEO said that the critics and the press were the reason the movie did not work out.

"It was not a bad film, and it did great on Netflix. For some reason, the press decided that they didn’t want us making these films out of “Kraven” and “Madame Web,” and the critics just destroyed them," he told the publication.

This is in contrast to the popular opinion about the movie as well as what the critics said about it. Most critics called the movie out for its bad writing and exposition style and there were very few things that were praised about the movie.

Though the CEO still seems insistent on proving that the movie is not as bad as it was deemed, it seems that the Spider-Man spinoffs have come to a complete end by now.

Madame Web is available for streaming on Netflix.
