Matt Reeves' The Batman Part 2 has suffered another delay. This time, it has been delayed by another year from October 2, 2026, to October 1, 2027. This is the third delay the film has suffered after being officially announced in January, 2023.
Matt Reeves' The Batman Part 2 has been highly anticipated by fans for a long time now. The film will be a sequel to the critically acclaimed The Batman and the equally popular HBO series The Penguin. It will feature the return of Robert Pattinson in the role of the World's Greatest Detective.
However, the news of the delay caused massive disappointment among fans. With the original film coming out in 2022, this means that The Batman Part 2 is now scheduled to come out five and a half years after the release of the first installment.
Fans took to social media to express their disappointment:
"Matthew (Reeves) this better be the best movie ever bro you have half a decade to cook up," said a fan on X.
"What is up with scheduling sequels these days, we used to get sequels to big movies every like… 2-3 years? Either way I’m sure they’re cooking but I’m actually crashing out," said another fan on X.
"5 years for a part 2 is crazy," said another fan.
Some fans also came to Matt Reeves' defense:
"Kinda fascinating to see fans turn on reeves so quickly over this. I thought we all wanted franchise filmmakers to take their time making good movies instead of rushing to hit predetermined release dates," said a user on X.
"People are being way too annoying about The Batman Part 2 delay, a filmmaker taking their time on a film and a studio not enforcing it to be done as soon as humanly possible is a good thing, even if it does suck having to wait an extra year," said another user.
However, the majority of the fans were still disappointed by the delay and are hoping that the film does live up to the hype.
"Told my Dad The Batman Part 2 got pushed back to 2027 and he got mad at me like I made the decision," joked a fan.
"The Batman Part 2 better be the greatest goddamn movie ever made, I will accept nothing less for making me wait that long," said a fan.
Following the news of the delay, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn also commented on The Batman Part 2 delay on Threads. When asked by a fan why the film was delayed, Gunn confirmed that the script for the film still hasn't been completed and they want Matt Reeves to have enough time to get the film right.
“The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script (those of you who follow me here probably know that already). Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.”
The upcoming sequel is still slated to begin filming next year. However, till then fans can enjoy The Batman and The Penguin streaming right now. For further updates, stay tuned with us.
