Set to release this April 2025, Sony Pictures' Until Dawn is the latest live-action horror movie that has been adapted from a video game. In recent years we have seen quite a few video games being adapted into movies which have achieved both commercial success and critical acclaim. Until Dawn is a much-loved horror video game from Sony which is now being adapted into a movie by the conglomerate.
Sony released a new trailer for the film on January 16, 2025, and also revealed the release date of the movie— April 25, 2025. The trailer gives a glimpse at how the movie captures the intense, spine-chilling essence of the game, and players of the game are excited to see how their favorite video game from the horror genre fares on the big screen.
Until Dawn: Release date and how to watch?
Sony has shared that Until Dawn will be released on April 25, 2025 in theaters, just in time for the game's 10th anniversary, which is in August. As of now, the movie will exclusively be released in theaters but given it is a Sony production, it is likely that the horror movie will come to Netflix after its PVOD release. So viewers who intend to catch the movie will have to go to the theaters as it is not known when it will be made available to watch from home.

Sony has released all the details about Until Dawn, including the release date, trailer, plot, and even the cast list. The official synopsis of the movie reads as follows:
"A group spends the weekend in a ski lodge on the anniversary of their friends' disappearance, unaware that they are not alone."
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Until Dawn follows a group of people trapped in a time loop that keeps resetting as each of them is murdered in gruesome ways. The official trailer sums up the essence of the movie and what viewers can expect from it, as well as how it compares to the video game.
Peter Stormare, who played Dr. Hill, the psychiatrist, in the original video game, is also part of the movie, but it remains to be seen whether he plays the same character here. Stormare is joined by:

Until Dawn is a video game in the horror genre which was developed by Supermassive Games. The game follows a group of eight unsuspecting teenagers who come together to a remote cabin a year after the disappearance of two of their friends.
The game allows players to control the characters as they try to survive in a remote location that is looming with danger. The game makes use of a high-stakes “butterfly effect” system where players make choices that impact later gameplay. Players have to escape from the hands of masked killers and cannibalistic creatures while figuring out who can be trusted.
The game has a huge fan base and is reputed to be a classic in the arena of interactive storytelling. This means that expectations from the movie are sky high and it remains to be seen whether the film lives up to the video game.
