AllHipHop obtained court documents according to which New York Judge Vernon Broderick allowed an accuser to stay anonymous in a lawsuit where she sued Sean "Diddy" Combs. On Monday, November 4, Judge Broderick approved the anonymity request and allowed her to be referred to as Jane Doe.
The Arizona woman claimed that Combs had r*ped her in Las Vegas this year. According to the complainant, a promoter known as "International Smoove" invited her to one of Diddy's parties. The woman went to the after party where she allegedly lost control of her motor functions after having a drink served by the 55-year-old rapper.
Her lawyers wrote:
"Plaintiff informed ‘Smoove’ that she did not feel well, and likely would need to leave the party soon. ‘Smoove’ directed her to an empty bedroom in the suite and told her to lie down there until she felt better."
The lawsuit further stated that once the plaintiff woke up, she felt sore and complained that her body hurt. Her attorneys further claimed that upon waking up, the woman saw Diddy in one corner of the room yelling at someone on call.
The plaintiff reportedly decided to stay still until he left the room. After getting off the bed, she allegedly noticed that she did not have her clothes on and her body soreness was primarily near her private parts. According to the lawsuit, that's when she realized that she was r*ped by Combs.
Jane Doe further claimed that the alleged incident had impacted her mental health and that she slept for about two entire days after the incident.
The approach by Judge Broderick to maintain anonymity was different than what was taken by Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil.
Judge Vyskocil ordered a woman from Tennessee who had sued Combs, to reveal her identity. This complainant claimed that the former music mogul r*ped her in 2004 in Manhattan. The plaintiff's lawyers claimed that the accusations were sensitive in nature and anonymity was justified.
Judge Vyskocil argued that several other complainants have filed lawsuits against Combs under their names, as reported by Reuters. The judge also stated that Diddy's legal team had the entitlement to check the complainant's background and credibility. The judge added:
"Plaintiff's interest in avoiding public scrutiny, or even embarrassment, does not outweigh the interests of both Combs and the public in the customary and constitutionally-embedded presumption of openness in judicial proceedings."
Amid this scandal, Diddy's children seemed to be quite supportive of their dad. In an Instagram post, his kids, Quincy, Justin, Chance, and twins Jessie and D’Lila wished the music producer on his 55th birthday on November 4. Diddy could then be heard thanking his kids for their wishes.
Meanwhile, Combs remains in jail after he was indicted with s*x trafficking charges. He, however, has maintained innocence and pleaded not guilty to the allegations. As per AllHipHop reports, his trial is set to start in May 2025.
