Born on November 19, 1997, Declyn Lauper has taken after his mother, Cyndi Lauper, and ventured into the world of music. As a rapper, Lauper has adopted the stage name "Dex Lauper," under which he releases his songs. Some of his notable tracks are Wavy, Special Vibe, 30 POINTERS, and more.
Lauper released a song titled K I D S in collaboration with G-Eazy in 2019. He is active on Instagram, where he has over 1.8 million followers.
For the unversed, Decyln Lauper was reportedly present at a shooting incident in Harlem. According to Daily Mail, he was caught with a loaded Glock .48 caliber handgun and drugs, and his friend was shot in the leg by a gang of five gunmen.
Lauper was later arrested on charges of gun possession, for which he had to appear in court on December 3, per the outlet. But according to his Instagram stories, Declyn traveled to Miami Beach. Whether or not the rapper appeared in court remains unknown.
Daily Mail reported the circumstances of Declyn Lauper's arrest for gun charges in February. Lauper allegedly told the cops to call his mother at the time of his arrest, adding:
"All I know is I look up and there's guns in everybody's face. It's not really my first rodeo, coming from my family that I come from. And my mom and uncles and all that. So I was calm bro."
The rapper also seemingly boasted about his wealth to the cops, stating that he was wearing a necklace worth $20,000. He added that his father, David Thornton, paid the legal fees of his injured friend's lawyer.
Following Declyn Lauper's arrest, his bail was set at $20,000 and $100,000, which his family paid in cash. After his bail from prison, Lauper made his first court appearance regarding his arrest in April, followed by another one in November, and was due another one this month.
Per Daily Mail, Decyln 'Dex' Lauper has had run-ins with the law in the past as well. Two years ago, he was arrested from outside the memorial of another rapper Ethan Reyes in July 2022.
Declyn was sitting in the stolen 2014 Mercedes Benz which was double parked at the cross-section of 140th Street and Broadway. According to the prosecutors, when questioned about the vehicle by police officers, the 27-year-old responded with, "You know who I am."
During his court appearance, Dex Lauper entered a guilty plea to disorderly conduct, which resulted in the rapper receiving no jail time. As a conditional of the plea, the Manhattan Criminal Court asked Declyn to avoid any further trouble for a year, in addition to five days of community service.
In May 2024, Dex Lauper was also hit with a s*xual assault lawsuit by a former female friend. According to the New York Post, the lawsuit was filed over an incident that took place four years ago and claimed that Lauper had invited the victim to his Manhattan apartment, where he allegedly attacked her.
The plaintiff in the lawsuit was a 28-year-old insurance broker who lived in New York City at the time and had since moved out, per the media outlet.
