After much social media speculation and anticipation, Spotify finally dropped the 2024 Spotify Wrapped. The music streaming service released this year's edition of its famous wrapped feature on Wednesday, December 4. As with earlier editions, this year's feature also provided listeners with a comprehensive overview of their top listened-to artists and songs of 2024.
This prompted the annual flood of social media users sharing and comparing their personalized wrapped lists online. This year's Wrapped introduced some new features, including "Your Music Evolution," which gave listeners an overview of how their listening habits changed over time, and a personal AI-generated podcast that provided users with listening habit overviews.
To access the 2024 Spotify Wrapped, users have to head to the homepage of their Spotify app and click on the highlighted 'Wrapped' option on top or simply click on the home screen banner announcing the feature. The main draw of Spotify's Wrapped feature is a comprehensive slide-by-slide presentation of the user's listening habits to the tune of familiar tracks from their 2024 listening experience.
Just like every year, the presentation contains the number of minutes Spotify users listened to music in 2024 alongside their "biggest listening day." Wrapped also shows the number of songs users listened to and their most played track, alongside where the user ranks globally among the song's top listeners. The same comprehensive overview is also repeated when it comes to artists.
Spotify Wrapped provides users with a list of their top 5 artists and top 5 songs in 2024. Each of these slides can be downloaded and directly shared on social media. As a new feature for this year, Spotify added the listening streaks feature showcasing how many days in a row users listened to a particular artist.
Spotify also introduced the "Your Music Evolution" feature to the 2024 Spotify Wrapped. This feature allowed users to see three distinct listening phases they passed through as the year progressed. AI also made a big splash in this year's Wrapped as Spotify used the help of Google's Notebook LM to create a personalized AI podcast for each user that provided a rundown of their listening habits.
This year's Wrapped also extended to a similar overview of Spotify podcast and audiobook listening habits. Premium users will also enjoy additional Wrapped benefits like exclusive clips from artists they've listened to and a personalized music video playlist.
Taylor Swift bagged the top spot in Spotify's top ten global artists list, while The Weeknd and Bad Bunny came second and third, respectively. Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso took the No.1 spot in the top ten global songs list, while Benson Boone's Beautiful Things and Billie Eilish's Birds of a Feather occupied the following spots.
In the United States, Taylor Swift was still the most streamed artist of 2024, with rapper Drake and country star Zach Bryan in the second and third spots. The most streamed song in the U.S. was once again Sabrina Carpenter's Espresso, this time followed by Kendrick Lamar's Not Like Us and Shaboozy's A Bar Song.
