Busta Rhymes allegedly surrendered to the New York Police Department on January 14, 2025, following an assault incident involving his assistant Dashiel Gables. The incident reportedly occurred on January 10 when Gables was on his phone during work hours, which upset Busta, as per Hip Hop DX.
Busta is scheduled to appear in court on February 2 this year and has received a desk appearance ticket (DAT). After the incident, he initially went into hiding.
After turning himself in, Busta was charged with misdemeanor assault, attempted assault, and harassment, as reported by Complex on January 17.
Known as Trevor George Smith Jr., he has released eleven albums in his successful career, with the latest one, Dragon Season, coming out on January 17, 2025. He is also recognized for his appearances in various films and TV shows such as Halloween: Resurrection, Breaking Point, Rugrats, and The Boondocks.
As mentioned, the rapper turned himself in about a week after an alleged assault incident involving his assistant, Dashiel Gables, at the Brooklyn-based J Condominium. According to The Shade Room's Instagram, Dashiel is 50 years old, and the incident occurred at 10 a.m.
The altercation arose when Dashiel Gables was busy with his phone during working hours, which allegedly led Busta Rhymes to hit Gables in the face a few times, resulting in swelling around Gables' left eye.
A report by TMZ on January 16 stated that Busta left the place immediately after the incident, prompting Gables to call 911. He was transported to a local hospital after police and paramedics arrived. While a date for Busta's court appearance has been set, other details related to the alleged incident are yet to be officially disclosed.
While Busta Rhymes' representatives are yet to comment on his recent surrender, Dashiel told The Post on January 16 that his legal team has advised him not to share any statements about the case. He addressed this by saying:
"I can't mess up my case, bro. It's just not going to be worth it. An article in the paper as opposed to six or seven-million-dollar settlement? I'm not risking it, sorry."
Although the New York City native is making headlines due to his recent legal issue, the Soul Train star is also set to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this year. The news was confirmed by the organizers in June of last year, as per a report by Hip Hop DX.
At that time, Busta Rhymes shared a reel on his Instagram page, expressing his happiness about being selected by the organizers. He wrote:
"I will never stop telling you every single day!! The blessings don't stop so we won't ever stop!! The dragon is officially apart of the class of 2025 Hollywood Walk of Fame and I will be officially receiving my Hollywood star!! Thank you to my whole team and amazing support system."
In addition to his recent album release, Busta Rhymes will appear in the action-comedy film The Naked Gun, which will premiere on August 1, 2025. The film features popular faces such as Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson among its lead cast members.
