Chicago P.D. season 12 episode 9, titled Friends and Family, revolved around the newest member of the Intelligence Unit, Officer Kiana Cook. Kiana became deeply involved in a kidnapping case after a man got injured in front of her while attempting to deliver ransom money for his abducted wife and daughters.

The man, named Gregory died during surgery and his wife was later found murdered by the kidnappers. Determined to save the two missing girls, Kiana turned to her estranged, rich mother for financial help with the high ransom demand.

Although the team failed in their first sting operation, they were successful in capturing the man who picked up the ransom. The mother's affair with one of the kidnappers was disclosed as the abduction motive, and the team eventually rescued the children.

The logline for the upcoming episode, titled Zoë, reads:

"An unexpected visitor causes disruption for Ruzek and Burgess amidst an emotional investigation involving an unidentified young girl."

Although there was no information about the unexpected visitor in the promo, fans can expect a disruption in Adam and Kim's lives in episode 10. Fans might also get a glimpse into their complex romantic relationship in the days leading up to their wedding.

Additionally, the promo gives hints about the case that the Intelligence Unit will tackle in the next episode, involving a young girl named Zoe. Adam's dialogue "Who is this girl?" adds suspense to the plot and Zoe's expressionless demeanor while talking about her mother and siblings' deaths adds mystery to her character.
