Fox is set to kick off the new year with a fresh military comedy series, Going Dutch, premiering on January 2, 2025, at 9:30 PM ET/PT. Created by Joel Church-Cooper, known for his sharp wit in Brockmire and Minx, and starring Denis Leary in the lead, the show promises to be a perfect blend of humor, heartfelt family dynamics, and military life set against the scenic backdrop of the Netherlands.
The series centers around Colonel Patrick Quinn, played by Leary, who is reassigned to Garrison Stroopsdorf, a seemingly inconsequential U.S. Army base, famous more for its Michelin Star commissary than military prowess.
Going Dutch offers a hilarious and heart-warming exploration of military camaraderie and family reconciliation, as Quinn tries to impose order on his ragtag band of soldiers while trying to mend his relationship with his estranged daughter, Captain Maggie Quinn, played by Taylor Misiak.
The cast features Denis Leary as Colonel Patrick Quinn, an outspoken man not afraid to share his honest and unfiltered views, based on many of the hilarious moments in the trailer of Going Dutch. Audiences may also remember him as Tommy Gavin of Rescue Me or as John Raines in the movie The Ref.
Playing opposite him is Taylor Misiak, who has starred in shows like Dave. She takes on the role of Captain Maggie Quinn, Patrick's determined and competent daughter who previously led the base in his absence.
Joining them is Danny Pudi (Community) as Major Abraham Shah, Colonel Quinn's loyal and often overly optimistic aide. Meanwhile, Laci Mosley (iCarly) portrays Sergeant Dana Conway, a sharp-witted supply sergeant with a knack for bending the rules.
Hal Cumpston (The Walking Dead: World Beyond) rounds out the main cast as Corporal Elias Papadakis, a tech-savvy soldier with an amusingly deadpan personality. Recurring appearances by Joe Morton, Catherine Tate, and Dempsey Bryk promise additional layers of humor and intrigue.
At its core, Going Dutch revolves around Colonel Patrick Quinn, who finds himself exiled to Garrison Stroopsdorf after an unfiltered tirade against his superiors. This base, while technically a military installation, is more famous for its luxury dining and leisure facilities than any strategic significance.
With little to no real military action to oversee, Colonel Quinn faces the unique challenge of maintaining order among a group of eccentric soldiers, who seem to have embraced their cushy assignments.
In addition to dealing with the professional chaos of Stroopsdorf, Quinn must also repair his fractured relationship with his daughter, Captain Maggie Quinn. Having previously led the base herself, Maggie is not keen on taking orders from her brash father, and their interactions create plenty of comedic—and sometimes heartfelt—moments.
It is the brainchild of Joel Church-Cooper, a writer known for his work on critically acclaimed shows like Brockmire and Minx. Church-Cooper's ability to mix humor with deeper emotional themes can be expected to shine in this latest project as well. Denis Leary, who stars in the series, also executive produces, bringing his extensive experience in comedy and drama to the creative process.
The production balances laugh-out-loud moments with genuine emotional connections, exploring not just military life but also the intricacies of father-daughter dynamics. With a strong creative team and a cast that understands comedic timing and emotional nuance, Going Dutch has all the right ingredients to become a standout comedy series in 2025.
Going Dutch will be released on January 2, 2025, on Fox at 9:30 pm ET/PT.
