Invincible season 3 was recently announced by Amazon Prime Video, on October 15, 2024. The series, based on Robert Kirkman's comic book series of the same name, first premiered on March 25, 2021. Invincible season 3 is slated for a February 6, 2025 release, and its teaser trailer ends by announcing that it will have no mid-season break.

Despite Invincible's popularity and acclaim, the second season of the animated series was notorious for its mid-season break, which broke up the pacing of the storylines and left fans clamoring for more. Aside from the new trailer explicitly stating there will be no such break for Invincible season 3, a few comments within the trailer itself alluded to the controversial rollout of season 2.

Fans on Reddit quickly took note of this, with a post discussing the same, garnering over 4.8k upvotes.

The top-rated comment on the post pointed out that season 2's mid-season break hurt its pacing, saying:

"I mean yea. That break did serious damage to the momentum of the show. Idk what they were thinking."

In response to this comment, some fans theorized that the true reason for the mid-season break might have been Amazon's attempts to keep subscribers hooked on to the service, with one of them saying:

"I heard a theory that Amazon did it to force people to renew their memberships in time to watch the second half season 2. Thanks to COVID, they didn’t have enough highly-anticipated original content to retain memberships, so they just split Invincible in half. Idk, makes sense to me."

Another fan responded:

"Yeah but not because of Covid, I think it was because Amazon announced they were bringing ads to Prime Video."

Some viewers were less pessimistic about Amazon's intentions and believed that season 2 took a break in order to prevent audience burnout before Invincible season 3 came out. As one fan put it:

"I have a second less pessimistic theory. Maybe they did it so the gap between season 2 and 3 won’t feel as long especially since s3 is going to be hype as f**k with the stories they are likely to cover. They did say they wanted about 1 season a year, the end of season 2 to the start of S3 is less than a year."

"I think they made it so they could finish Season 3 and make the time gap between the end of S2 and release of S3 shorter," another user added.

Invincible season 3 picks up where season 2 left off

Invincible season 3 will continue to follow the story of Mark Grayson and his journey as a superhero. Season 2 ended with Mark facing off against the megalomaniacal Angstrom, who was running experiments and tampering with the multiverse in order to become super-intelligent and a savior of humanity.

Thanks to Mark foiling his plans, Angstrom was disfigured and harbored a major grudge against the protagonist, leading to much of the second season's conflict. In the final showdown between the two, Mark viciously battled him across the multiverse, beating Angstrom to death after the latter attacked his mother Debbie. Trapped in a desolate world, Mark was then rescued by a Guardian of the Globe.

The Invincible season 3 teaser trailer recounts Mark's one-sided battle against Anissa and the warning she'd given him about another, more ruthless, Viltrumite arriving on Earth soon. Therefore, it's safe to assume that Mark's battle against the Viltrumite Empire will continue in Invincible season 3, and he'll have to become stronger than ever to prepare for what comes next.

Invincible seasons 1 and 2 are currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Season 3 will be released on February 6, 2025.
