Felisa Garcia played a key role in the murder case of Anabel Segura. Netflix's documentary 900 Days Without Anabel delves into the terrifying history of Anabel Segura's kidnapping and murder in 1993. The crime was committed by Emilio Muñoz Guadix and Candido Ortiz Aon.

Anabel was a business student, aged 22, kidnapped while jogging within her upscale Madrid neighborhood, triggering two years of nationwide search operations. Unfortunately, her dead body was found in 1995, buried near a factory.

Felisa Garcia was involved in the scheme to extort ransom money from Anabel's family. Her part in the plan included portraying Anabel on an audio tape sent to the family as false "proof of life".

Though less central to the plan than her co-conspirators, Felisa Garcia's actions had a huge bearing on the case. After serving her sentence, she resumed her life in Spain with her children, choosing to live quietly and away from media scrutiny.

Felisa Garcia's role in the Anabel Segura case

Felisa Garcia was the wife of Emilio Muñoz Guadix, who masterminded Anabel's kidnapping. Emilio and his accomplice, Candido Ortiz Aon, staged the abduction on April 12, 1993, targeting Anabel in the hope that they would get some ransom from her rich family. Felisa's role in the plot comes up when she portrays Anabel on a recorded audio tape.

This cassette tape sent three months after the kidnapping, was used to convince the Segura family that Anabel was still alive. On it, Felisa's voice mimicked Anabel's, calling out to be taken home. This ruse only continued the family's pain for those months as the kidnappers continued to make ransom demands even though they had murdered Anabel within hours of her kidnapping.

During the investigation, Felisa's obvious participation in the scheme was brought to light, proving that she was also a partner in crime. Her role seemed more of a subsidiary one to that of the principal perpetrators, Emilio and Candido.

Felisa Garcia's conviction and sentence

After conducting a prolonged investigation, police apprehended Emilio, Candido, and Felisa on the 28th of September, 1995—900 days from the date of Anabel's disappearance. Later, close to where an abandoned factory was located in Toledo, her murderers buried her body since she was kept there before her murder.

Charges at the trial included covering up the crime and posing as Anabel on the audio tape. Of course, Emilio and Candido got 39 years each, which was later increased to 43 years by the Supreme Court. Felisa was sentenced to six months by the Court of Toledo which was later increased to two years and four months in prison by the Supreme Court.

Felisa's sentence mirrored the perception that, while her actions were criminal, she was never directly involved in planning or executing Anabel's murder. She served her sentence, then was released and returned to her family.

Where is Felisa Garcia now?

Since serving out her sentence, Felisa Garcia has been almost unheard of in the media and now lives far away from them. She reportedly returned to Spain with her children and prefers to live a humble, low-key life far from the spotlight. Unlike Emilio, who made many public apologies for his role in this case, Felisa said absolutely nothing after the verdict.

Her life post-trial remains a mystery as there are no subsequent reports or releases on the whereabouts or current developments concerning her. Her decision to keep herself out of public view further suggests an attempt to dissociate herself from the notoriety that had engulfed the case.

900 Days Without Anabel was released on Netflix on November 22, 2024.
