A recent rumor claimed that WWE was considering having Logan Paul challenge Gunther at WrestleMania 41. Paul teased the feud at RAW on Netflix's media day at WWE HQ.
The Maverick announced his move to RAW and that he was coming for the World Heavyweight Title. The Ring General hasn't been featured much on RAW lately other than in pre-taped promos.
Despite Paul picking up the sport extremely quickly, he should not be in such a prime spot at The Show of Shows. Having Gunther defend his title against Logan Paul at WrestleMania 41 is a bad idea for the next four reasons.
One huge reason why Logan Paul facing Gunther at WrestleMania 41 is a bad idea is the character dynamics. Gunther is supposed to be the top heel on RAW and has played that role brilliantly.
He doesn't need to become a hero but simply continue putting on some of the best matches every night. The Ring General will probably be cheered if he defends the title against The Maverick.
Fans may enjoy seeing Paul getting chopped to oblivion but it still doesn't mean he should have that prominent spot. The WWE Universe doesn't like Paul, but at least Gunther is respected for his dedication to the craft.
Such an important match on a stage like WrestleMania 41 needs to have defined heel/face roles. Face vs. Face matches can work if those two stars have issues.
If Logan Paul has to be in a title match at The Show of Shows, it should be for a mid-card title. He already captured the US Title but seems more interested in randomly collecting trophies to say he won them.
Paul rarely defended the US Championship after winning it. A match against Bron Breakker would be better than an automatic World Heavyweight Title shot.
The former NXT Champ is a tweener and already has a portion of the crowd behind him. Fans would love seeing Bron break him in half at WrestleMania 41. He could also match Paul's athleticism on the big stage.
For much of his WWE tenure, Logan Paul has only shown up for championship opportunities. It's a part of his character as he's an outsider who took to the ring like a fish to water.
Instead of working his way through the roster, he fits the mold of many people today - getting what he wants without doing all the hard work. He did this when Roman Reigns was still the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Paul also challenged Cody Rhodes instead of defending his United States Title. If he competed in a few qualifying matches or appeared a few times on the weekly shows, it would be more palatable for WWE fans.
Saying he's coming for the World Heavyweight Title without earning it is disrespectful to full-time stars who show up every week. Paul hasn't been around since SummerSlam due to the birth of his child. Regardless, he needs to do much more to earn a prestigious title shot.
With all the changes coming with RAW's move to Netflix, one big change should be focusing on full-time performers who aren't used consistently.
The first offering on Netflix only had four matches due to the need to showcase all of the celebrities and legends in appearance. That must change going forward. The Wyatt Sicks are a unique act but are featured sporadically.
Karrion Kross is a great promo but most of his non-match segments are pushed to social media or after the show. Bron Breakker is the Intercontinental Champ but has barely been on screen over the last few weeks.
Instead of dedicating such an important spot to someone like Logan Paul, Gunther's WrestleMania 41 opponent should be a full-time performer. It shouldn't go to someone just in it for a viral moment. CM Punk, Seth Rollins, or even John Cena are better options.
