CM Punk's shock return to aid the OG Bloodline in last week's WWE SmackDown certainly upped the ante for Survivor Series: WarGames. Paul Heyman returned and introduced Punk as the final member of Roman Reigns' team.
The addition evened the odds for WarGames but only seemed to confuse and upset The Head of The Table like the other additions. He eventually overcame his reluctance to trust Sami Zayn and Jey Uso.
However, Punk was never part of the original Bloodline angle. As they stared each other down to end last week's show, Punk mouthed that he was doing this for Heyman.
The next four things could go down between Reigns and Punk on the last SmackDown before Survivor Series: WarGames.
Ego is usually a difficult personality trait for a professional athlete to overcome. Both Reigns and Punk are stubborn and opinionated and don't care who they may anger.
Neither man cares about pleasing everyone like Cody Rhodes does. Since both stars are loyal to Paul Heyman, that may be the only thing keeping them from beating each other up.
If their egos take over when they converse, it will likely require the Usos and Zayn to pull them apart. This will add the usual tension to the face team ahead of the WarGames match and make people wonder if they can truly coexist.
The relationship between Punk and Reigns is tenuous at best. They've traditionally been on opposite sides of the spectrum in WWE. Punk was a long-time veteran when Reigns debuted with The Shield.
Reigns became the face of the company right as Punk was heading for the door. The one factor they share is that Paul Heyman was instrumental in both careers.
The Best in the World saved The Wiseman from an attack from Solo Sikoa's group over the summer. Heyman was instrumental in Reigns' metamorphosis into The Tribal Chief.
To stave off the threat of Sikoa and his minions, SmackDown could witness the two top stars agreeing to band together for one night in honor of Heyman. It would mirror how Seth Rollins did the same for Cody Rhodes last year at WarGames.
WWE fans over 20 know the history between Roman Reigns and CM Punk. Punk and Heyman brought the Shield to the main roster as a type of protection.
The trio debuted during a Survivor Series match, with Punk defending a Championship against both Ryback and John Cena. They helped him keep his belt.
Punk had a hand in creating Roman Reigns. He could take some credit for his success and the fact that he became the WWE's top star. Reigns will then claim to have done it all by himself, and the argument could commence on SmackDown.
Last week's SmackDown ended with Punk joining the fray to even the odds. The OG Bloodline, Punk, and Heyman stood tall as the show went off the air.
That moment sent Sikoa and his Bloodline packing to regroup and strategize with one week remaining before Survivor Series: WarGames.
He'll most likely respond by rushing and attacking his opposition on SmackDown. Depending on where Punk and Reigns meet up, Sikoa's group could attempt to brutalize their opponents backstage.
If it's in the ring, they could come out of the crowd or sneak attack the two major stars. It could leave SmackDown with the final image of both sides brawling the night before the heated cage match.
