Former WWE champion to return after 3 years and save Gunther from Damian Priest? Exploring the possibility

WWE Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 presents a huge problem for Gunther. After years of dominance, The Ring General's aura of being undefeatable has vanished. But the real problem is that this slump has come at the worst time possible, as the reigning King of the Ring prepares to step into the ring with Damian Priest. So, it's safe to say that the World Heavyweight Champion will need some external help to retain his title, and he might just get it in the form of a returning former WWE champion.

The former champion in this scenario hasn't been seen in a WWE ring since May 2021. Last seen working under Gunther, the star is none other than Alexander Wolfe. The 38-year-old, whose real name is Axel Tischer, used to be a member of Imperium, and before that, he held the NXT Tag Team Championship alongside Eric Young as part of SAnitY.

Wolfe left WWE when his contract expired in June 2021. However, he could return after three years to help Gunther against Damian Priest. In January 2023, Wolfe admitted to being open to the possibility of a return to the Stamford-based company. So, why not at Survivor Series: WarGames, where he can potentially cost The Archer of Infamy a chance to win the world title and rejoin Imperium as The Ring General's enforcer?

Of course, things didn't exactly end well between Wolfe and Imperium, as his last interaction with the group led to him being kicked out. But while this is all just speculation, anything can happen in this business.

Gunther hasn't been feeling like his usual self since WWE Crown Jewel

As mentioned earlier, Gunther has lost this air of dominance that once surrounded him. And if Damian Priest is to be believed, the Austrian's self-doubt stems from what went down at WWE Crown Jewel earlier this month. After all, it was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, that The Ring General suffered a rare loss.

Competing against Cody Rhodes for the opportunity to be crowned the inaugural Men's Crown Jewel Champion, the 37-year-old put in his best effort. Regrettably, his best was not good enough to defeat The American Nightmare. Subsequently, The Ring General's body language has taken a hit, a fact observed by everyone in WWE.

If Gunther is not careful, this self-doubt may cost him the World Heavyweight Championship at Survivor Series: WarGames. And that may only be the beginning. A second loss in a row could completely shatter the Austrian star's confidence, and from there, his career might spiral down rather quickly.
