SmackDown also extending to three hours has provided several underutilized WWE stars a chance to get some TV time. Apollo Crews has been among those who have appeared in backstage segments, and Bill Apter recently revealed why he'd like to see Crews manage Pretty Deadly.
The tag team division on SmackDown is pretty stacked currently, with #DIY leading the charge as the WWE Tag Team Champions. Pretty Deadly is one of the contenders to dethrone the reigning champions. However, Elton Prince and Kit Wilson suffered a defeat against Los Garza on SmackDown this week, partly due to Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa not coming out to help them.
Prince and Wilson confronted #DIY backstage after the match, and it seemed like Gargano and Ciampa manipulated the duo and expertly defused the situation.
Apollo Crews appeared after #DIY left, and he advised Pretty Deadly to not fall for The Blackheart and Johnny Wrestling's deceiving comments.
Crews interacting with Prince and Wilson was enough for Bill Apter to push for a trios group. Apter admitted on the latest edition of Smack Talk that he'd love to see Apollo become a manager for the young tag team.
"I would love to see Apollo Crews be their manager, like, their advisor. I think that would spruce them up a little bit because his personality and theirs work really well together," he said. [31:50 - 32:12]
As mentioned earlier, WWE has more airtime to fill now on SmackDown due to its three-hour format, and Apollo Crews and many other talents could get a deserved spot on the show.
Apollo has been with the company since 2014, and Apter believed a new role in addition to The One Man Nation's in-ring work could help reignite his WWE career.
"Yeah, because they are not letting him win any; they are not putting him in programs, so I think him as an advisor or their Wiseman, I think that would be great," he added. [32:13 - 32:40]
Apollo Crews is slowly gaining more traction due to his random appearances backstage, but a well-established alliance with two young upstarts can be a much-needed creative shift he needs right now in the WWE.
