Baron Corbin recently had a major achievement outside of wrestling less than a month after his WWE contract expired. Corbin has since broken his silence following his major accomplishment at an event in Florida.
As previously reported by Sportskeeda Wrestling, Corbin participated in the 2024 IBJJF Tampa International Open Tournament on Saturday. He won silver in the Master 2 Ultra Heavy Division, losing to Franck Alphonse in the final.
Later on in the day, in the same tournament, the former United States Champion took home the gold medal for the Master 2 Open Division. He defeated Fi Li in the quarterfinals, Bradley Curtis in the semis, and Diogo Rodrigues Ponciano Freitas in the final, per reports from Fightful.
In a post on X, fka Twitter, Baron Corbin shared his happiness on winning the gold medal after his silver finish earlier in the day.
"Just when I thought today sucked, I came back and totally redeemed myself haha. GOLD in absolute," Corbin said.
Baron Corbin, who now goes by his real name Tom Pestock, has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for years at the Rudos BJJ gym in Florida. Other wrestlers who train there include Matt Riddle, Shayna Baszler, IYO SKY, Guilia, Sumie Sakai, Kairi Sane, Hanako, Mina Shirakawa, Shinsuke Nakamura, and Karrion Kross.
Kurt Angle was very disappointed with WWE when Baron Corbin's contract was not renewed. Angle felt that his final match against Corbin at WrestleMania 35 was wasted. The Lone Wolf felt the same way, as he expressed his thoughts in a post on X as a response to the Hall of Famer.
"To be fair, that's one of the reasons I wish I had become world champ! It would paid honor to what Kurt did for me. I will forever appreciate it and wish I could have done more to make it worth it for him," Corbin tweeted.
Corbin's final televised match was him teaming up with Apollo Crews in a loss to Los Garza on the August 30 episode of SmackDown. His last match was a dark match, with a win over Giovanni Vinci on October 18.
