Cody Rhodes will defend his title at WWE Royal Rumble 2024

Last month, Cody Rhodes agreed to defend his championship against Kevin Owens when The Prizefighter crossed a line and hit Randy Orton with a package piledriver. The two met in Long Island at Saturday Night's Main Event, where The American Nightmare appeared with the Winged Eagle Title for one night only.

In the match's final moments, Rhodes hit Owens with a Cross-Rhodes on a steel chair to win the bout. The move didn't sit well with the challenger, as he previously got the champion down for a three count with no referee in sight. This led to an all-out attack from Kevin Owens on Cody Rhodes.

After the devastating attack, The Prizefighter took the classic title with him as a souvenir and called himself the real champion. On the latest edition of Friday Night SmackDown, The American Nightmare returned when The Prizefighter called him out.

The Undisputed WWE Champion agreed to Owens' demands, and the two will face each other in a Ladder match at the Royal Rumble in February 2025. Both titles will be suspended above the ring.
