WWE Superstar CM Punk had a heartfelt message for a top female star who's all set to retire tonight. Japanese professional wrestler Sumie Sakai is wrestling her last match at tonight's NJPW Battle in the Valley.
In December 2024, it was announced that Sumie Sakai would wrestle her final match at NJPW Battle in the Valley on January 11, 2025. Sakai would team up with EVIL and SHO to take on Hiromu Takahashi, Mayu Iwatani, and Yuka Sakazaki in a six-person tag team match.
Before the bout, CM Punk took to Instagram to share a picture with Sakai on his story. He also had the following message for the Japanese star:
"Love and respect to Sumie Sakai tonight in her retirement match!" Punk wrote.
Punk is doing incredibly well for himself during his ongoing WWE run. The Second City Saint feels he has several matches in store for the WWE Universe before he calls it quits. Last year, he had the following to say on an episode of RAW:
"In my career sometimes, people ask me, ‘How many matches do I have left in these old bones?’ Depending on how you feel about me, the answer is either wildly disappointing or makes you tremendously happy. Because, the answer is, way more than you think.” [H/T: ITR Wrestling]
Punk recently won one of the biggest matches of his career. He took on Seth Rollins, his real-life rival, in the main event of WWE RAW's Netflix debut. In the end, The Best in the World was victorious over The Visionary and couldn't stop smiling while staring at his opponent.
The former world champion now aims to do one thing he's never done before and something that has been bugging him for years. He wants to headline WrestleMania, WWE's biggest annual show.
