A 63-year-old legendary former WWE champion recently teased his massive return to the Stamford-based promotion after almost 12 years. The champion being referred to is The Godfather.

The real-life Charles Thomas Wright started his career in World Wrestling Entertainment in 1991 and made a huge name by winning the Intercontinental Championship and the Tag Team Championship. He was also inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2016. The Godfather last competed in the Stamford-based promotion ring on January 27, 2013, when he participated in the Royal Rumble.

Throughout his career, the legend has been known by multiple in-ring names, including Sir Charles, Papa Shango, and Kama, but his most recognizable moniker is The Godfather.

During a recent edition of his podcast, Poddin' Ain't Easy, The Godfather discussed scrapped plans for his return to the WWE ring at WrestleMania 36. The 63-year-old said that he was supposed to participate in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

The former Papa Shango also revealed that he would have shown up multiple times in the match with his different in-ring names, but plans for his return got scrapped as the match did not take place due to COVID-19.

"When COVID hit, I agreed to come out to that [Andrè The Giant Memorial Battle Royal] and that was going to be - I was going to come out as Kama, get eliminated, then I was gonna come back as Godfather, get eliminated, and then I was gonna ... I don't even remember what, I know that the last thing was Papa Shango and the lights were gonna go out and everybody, whoever was left, [laughs in character], and COVID hit and they didn't do it," Godfather revealed. However, The Godfather teased his massive return after RAW's Netflix debut on January 6, 2025, saying that he might pop up on television because he was still under contract with the Stamford-based promotion.

"It was hard because they're so PG and, when they see me, the audience wants to yell, 'Where's the hoes?'" Godfather said. "You might see me down at ... once they go on Netflix, I wouldn't be [surprised]. I mean, I'm still under contract. I'm still under contract with them, so, I'm sure you might see me pop up."
