WWE and Pro Wrestling NOAH have a collaborative partnership, with talent exchanges, training opportunities, and crossover matches between the two promotions. Notably, NOAH's Naomichi Marufuji recently revealed that NXT head Shawn Michaels contacted him.

The Genius of The Ark faced AJ Styles in a one-on-one match at the NOAH Destination pay-per-view on July 13, 2024. Marufuji lost the match to the former United States Champion in a hard-fought battle. In another mutual effort between two wrestling promotions, Naomichi Marufuji and Takashi Sugiura lost their GHC Tag Team Championship to Jack Morris and WWE star Omos on January 1, 2025.

Following this, The Junior Genius took to X (formerly Twitter), seemingly hinting at his future plans. He shared that he had received a message from WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels through an intermediary. Naomichi Marufuji did not disclose the contents of the message, but simply stated that he was "happy."

"Through a certain person I received a message from Shawn Michaels. The contents are...I'm happy," he wrote. [Translated from Japanese]

WWE analyst comments on Shawn Michaels potentially coming out of retirement

The Heartbreak Kid's last in-ring match was at Crown Jewel 2018. He teamed up with Triple H to defeat Kane and The Undertaker of The Brothers of Destruction in a Tag Team Match.

On his Notsam Wrestling podcast, Sam Roberts speculated about Shawn Michaels potentially coming out of retirement for a match. The analyst suggested several possible scenarios, including a singles bout against Eddy Thorpe or tag team action featuring Thorpe alongside partners like Ridge Holland or Ethan Page to face off against the former WWE Champion and Trick Williams.

"Is Shawn Michaels gonna wrestle again? Because if it's Eddy Thorpe vs. Shawn Michaels, I'm in. If somehow you can find a tag team partner for Eddy Thorpe, maybe a Ridge Holland and you do or even All Ego, All Ego is having a hell of an arc. The way All Ego put Je'Von Evans in the dirt. Maybe it's All Ego teaming with Eddy Thorpe vs. Shawn Michaels and Trick Williams. Maybe it's Ridge Holland and Eddy Thorpe vs. Shawn Michaels and Trick Williams. However you want to do it, I'm okay with the tag match too," Roberts said.

The speculations about HBK stepping back in the ring were sparked after he was involved in a physical confrontation with Eddy Thorpe.

Only time will tell if Shawn Michaels will come out of retirement for another potential match.
