Former WWE manager Jim Cornette recently discussed the negative fan reaction to Hulk Hogan's recent appearance. During the Netflix debut of RAW, Hogan and his long-time ally, Jimmy Hart, made an appearance, sparking controversy.
The Hulkster joined The Rock, The Undertaker, John Cena, and Rey Mysterio as some of the biggest WWE legends to appear during the RAW premiere on Netflix. However, the 71-year-old was in for a shock as the fans united in a chorus of boos while he cut a promo on the entrance ramp.
During the latest Jim Cornette Experience podcast, the former manager was shocked to see Hogan getting the kind of reaction, unlike any other WWE legend. Cornette was surprised by the reception during the RAW premiere, claiming that the fans’ anger was about Hogan's past lies and affiliations. He felt that the controversial video and subsequent Gawker lawsuit also may have played a part.
"We talked a little earlier about how well they like Mick Foley as a human being. They like The Rock as a star, but they're kind of in the middle with Cena. They like him as a star, he's also a nice human being whereas The Rock is on Mount Olympus. This was an example of we don't care whether you've been a star or not, as a person, we hate the f*ck out of you. Has he just lied and bullsh*tted? We know about the video, that was 10 years ago." After the disastrous appearance on RAW, Hulk Hogan was reportedly disappointed by the fans booing him out of the arena.
The veteran wrestler hoped he would get a positive reaction from the audience as he put them over during his babyface promo and claimed they had been tag team partners for years.
However, Hulk Hogan, the astute businessman, felt it was a good opportunity to gain exposure to his Real American beer, which was launched a few months ago.
