WWE has announced Cody Rhodes' Royal Rumble match this week on SmackDown. The American Nightmare will be facing Kevin Owens in a Ladder Match.
Cody Rhodes was on the blue brand this week, confronting Owens for laying him out after Saturday Night's Main Event. Rhodes claimed that KO forcibly took the Winged Eagle Championship and that he would teach his former friend a lesson. He challenged Owens to a Ladder Match so that the latter could not make any excuses after he lost.
This week on Smack Talk, Dutch Mantell mentioned that he was not excited about the two stars going at it in a Ladder Match.
"I hated the Ladder Match stipulation. It just didn't excite me at all."
He continued that ladder matches have been done so often that fans know how things will end. The wrestling veteran felt there was nothing unique for WWE to book despite having two huge stars in the match.
"Well, ladder matches, you can only see so many of them. When you continually do them throughout the year, they lose their drawing power. Because you've seen every finish you can see and what is left to do? If they wanted me to buy a ticket to see a Ladder Match, I'd have to say nah." [From 50:58 onwards]
After the Ladder Match was made official, Owens attacked Cody Rhodes and targeted his injured neck before WWE officials and Nick Aldis separated them.
It will be interesting to see who emerges victorious when Cody and Kevin lock horns at the Royal Rumble.
