In the last two years, World Wrestling Entertainment has found hosts around the globe for their premium live events. WWE Backlash was held in Puerto Rico in 2023, and France in 2024. In 2025, the company will seemingly do a premium live event in Mexico for the first time.

Grammy award winner Bad Bunny slipped this detail during an interview with Rolling Stone. When asked about the WWE show in Puerto Rico two years ago, the hometown hero noted how it was a dream come true and more importantly, it worked for all parties involved in more ways than one.

Backlash in Puerto Rico opened doors for every WWE international premium live event that followed. Bad Bunny had competed in that show in a highly promoted 'San Juan Street Fight' between two Puerto Ricans, the musician himself, and Damian Priest:

"What can I tell you? It was nice. We were there until we could bring WWE to Puerto Rico. And man, I actually feel like it was good for them and for everyone, because I saw that last year Backlash was in France, now it’s going to Mexico. They saw that it worked," Bad Bunny told Rolling Stone.

Bad Bunny vs. Damian Priest made several top lists in 2023. Their bout was the fan-favorite headliner, but the match that closed the show was Cody Rhodes vs. Brock Lesnar, which fatefully became one of Lesnar's final WWE matches as of this writing.

The Grammy award winner also discussed his in-ring future while speaking to Rolling Stone, teasing a return but with a twist.

Backlash 2024 was also a massive success for WWE

The following year, Backlash was held in Lyon, France. Once again, the annual event was headlined by Cody Rhodes, who defended his newly won Undisputed WWE Title against AJ Styles. Although the entire match card was critiqued by many as predictable, the event did huge numbers for the Stamford-based promotion.

In 2024, WWE had several premium live events and tours in different parts of the world. After Backlash, the company did King and Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia, Clash at the Castle in Scotland, Money in the Bank in Canada, and Bash in Berlin in Germany.
